Teri Hatcher and Friends Do the Nautica Malibu Tri

The Nautica Malibu Triathlon was held yesterday, and what makes this triathlon famous are the famous contestants that race it. Celebs often compete to raise money for the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Last year Jennifer Lopez competed, and training helped her lose some of her baby weight. This year Teri Hatcher competed to scratch a triathlon off her "bucket list."

She was joined by costar Felicty Huffman, who is a triathlon veteran, as is her husband William H. Macy, who also competed. Jeremy Piven, Mario Lopez, and 2007 Bachelor and Ironman athlete Andy Baldwin raced in the triathlon as well. The triathlon consisted of a 880-yard swim, an 18-mile bike ride, and a 4-mile run. Looks like everyone had fun and started their day with a great workout.

Reality Check: Felicity Huffman Eats Muffins

Her show, Desperate Housewives, may be full of melodrama, but Felicity Huffman is refreshingly down to earth. The 45-year-old star appears on the September cover of More magazine, looking fabulous and speaking frankly about her fitness habits and finding a healthy balance.

I particularly like what she had to say about finding a personal trainer with a realistic attitude:

"I've had a lot of trainers through the years, and they’re always like, 'Oh my god, you ate a muffin?' and 'What do you mean you weigh 125? You can’t shoot at that weight.' [Kirsten Holtgreen is] the first trainer who's said, 'You’re not eating enough.'"

On struggling with weight: "I'd take a vacation, and if I was heavy, it was a bad vacation, and if I was light-or, you know, lighter-it was a good vacation."

On gaining acceptance: “For some reason, after giving birth-which is when you look like a bag of doorknobs-I actually looked at myself in the mirror and went, ‘I look beautiful!’ I don’t know why, but that sort of tipped it for me."

Another funny tidbit from the article: In 1988 Huffman took over Madonna's role in a David Mamet play on Broadway. She found the material girl's thong in her dressing room and decided to try it on: "I was like, 'This is Madonna’s underwear!' Of course, it didn’t fit me." She may not wear Madonna's size, but both stars are extremely fit and fabulous!

Felicity Huffman Tries a Tri

Every once in a blue moon we'll see celebrities acting as really good role models for health. Since it doesn't happen all the time, I really enjoy sharing it with you when it does...

A real treat for you today, is seeing Felicity Huffman, participating in The Nautica Malibu Triathlon at Zuma Beach, in Malibu, CA. I am always impressed when anyone completes a triathlon, but even more impressive is that a few hours later Felicity Huffman was dressed to the nines at the 2007 Primetime Emmy Awards -- Now that's inspiring! I am totally motivated by her at this point, especially since a lot of other celebs would have thrown out the idea of doing a triathlon on such an important celebrity celebration day. You go girl!

Would You Rather Swim, Bike or Run?

Everyone is doing triathlons these days. Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey just did one last weekend. Felicity Huffman did a triathlon last year. Even the ladies at Elastic Waist have created the Lazy Waister's Triathlon, spreading the mileage out over the course of five weeks.

Another way to approach the triathlon is to enter as a team and split up the different legs of the race with two other friends. It is a great way to try a tri and is much less daunting than doing the entire race yourself. So if you were to make a team with your friends . . .
