It's the peak of tourist season in San Francisco, and the streets are full of adventurous travelers riding around on rented bikes. I admire people who want to stay active on vacation, and bicycling is a great way to explore a new city. Do you ever rent bikes while traveling?

Boo, it's too cold or wet to ride your bike outside, you say? So ride it inside. I'm not talking about hitting a spin class or getting the stationary bike out of your grandma's attic.

No matter what your reasons for having to stay inside are (the weather, that newborn baby you just had, the episode of Oprah you just can't miss...) you can still get in a biking workout, even if you don't own a stationary bike. No, I'm not telling you to bike around your house...
It seems that almost all of us have a bike laying around the house somewhere, right?.

Bicycle crunches are my go-to ab exercise because I love how the move works my upper and lower abs, and obliques all at once. If you're looking for a variation to the basic bicycle crunch, you can try it with an exercise ball, or give this seated version a try.

Not having a ball while you work your abs? Then try this fun variation of the bicycle crunch. It will not only work your abs and obliques, but since you're holding an exercise ball with your feet you'll work your hamstrings and inner thighs, too.

Looking to get that six-pack? You can do regular crunches until the cows come home, but that can get pretty boring for you and your abs. Bicycle crunches are a great way to target the rectus abdominis (the "six pack") and the obliques (the "spare tire") in one easy exercise.

Here's a bit of news that will please all of you bike-riding, eco-minded types: bicycle production is on the rise. According to the Earth Policy Institute's Eco-Economy Indicators, 130 million bicycles were produced last year, versus 52 million automobiles. What's even cooler is that bike production is increasing at a faster pace than car manufacturing: it's nearly quadrupled since 1970, while car production has only grown twofold.

I was driving to the post office the other day and a bunch of bikers (riding bicycles - not motorcycles) were totally ditching every road rule in the book. They were riding on the left side of the road and cutting in front of cars. I don't care so much that they weren't using their arm signals when turning, but they weren't even checking for cars before hanging a right.

I lived without a car for years. I biked to work. I biked to parties.
