New Trailer For The Watch: See the Aliens!

The latest preview for The Watch is here, and while the first trailer for the suburban alien-fighting comedy gave us a good look at the bromance between Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill, Vince Vaughn, and Richard Ayoade, it was lacking in plot. Now we get a look at not only the characters, but also a little bit more of the story, and we even get a peek at one of the aliens. I mean, it's dead (kind of) but it's still pretty exciting.

This trailer definitely isn't as crass as the first red-band one, but I don't think its lack of crudeness takes away from the dynamic between the characters. Now we know the origin of the sweet neighborhood watch jackets ("It's like the Chinese symbol for shut up and dance!") and the group's skilled interrogation techniques. Plus we still get to see some exploding cow. The movie hits theaters July 27, but you can check out the new trailer after the jump.

The 65th Cannes Film Festival is underway, with stars stepping out for glamorous events each day. Brad Pitt hit the red carpet looking hot in a classic tux while Diane Kruger emerged in a white feathered Nina Ricci gown for the premiere of Killing Them Softly with Joshua Jackson. Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst linked up for the On the Road photocall and Robert Pattinson hit the red carpet dressed up in a suit to support Kristen's big Cannes premiere. Gisele and Benjamin Swing Into the Holiday Weekend

Gisele Bundchen and Benjamin Brady got a head start on their long holiday weekend in Boston today with a stop at their favorite neighborhood park. The pair sat side by side on the swings and seemed to be enjoying the beautiful East Coast weather.

Gisele's reunited with her guys, Ben, Tom, and Jack, following recent trips to Paris and Sao Paulo. While visiting her home country of Brazil, Gisele stepped out in a see-through lace top for the launch of her new lingerie line, Gisele Bundchen Brazilian Intimates. She looked incredible at the event, though new rumors began swirling that Gisele is expecting her second child. So far, there's been no denial or confirmation about the baby news from Gisele or Tom Brady.

Jennifer Garner Sticks Close to Seraphina as Violet Finishes Up Her First School Year

Jennifer Garner gave 3-year-old Seraphina Affleck a piggyback ride into the Brentwood Mart yesterday. The girls picked up a gift and coffee to go and then headed on their way. Later in the day, Jen spent one-on-one time with her eldest daughter, Violet, after school. Jen's been on a break from acting since giving birth to Samuel earlier this year, though she's making her debut on the Internet in a new short film. Jen stars with Alfred Molina in the Youtube feature Serena. Their 12-minute film documents a complicated relationship between a serial liar, played by Garner, and her priest, Molina.

Ben Affleck and Jen have a few more months to enjoy time at home with the family, including baby Samuel, before they return to work this Fall. He's starring in and directing the CIA thriller Argo, due out in October, and Jen shares the big screen with Joel Edgerton in Disney's The Odd Life of Timothy Green, which is set for release in August.

Jennifer Garner packed up the car and headed out to Pasadena on Saturday with Violet and Seraphina Affleck to visit with friends. Yesterday, Jen and the girls stopped off at the Pacific Palisades farmers market before meeting up with Ben later in the day to watch a school play. Even though weekends are filled with activities with the kids, the busy parents of three recently snuck away from their nightly duties for a romantic low-key date night. Jen and Ben sipped cocktails at Hollywood's Whiskey Blue and were spotted looking very affectionate. The two have been all smiles since the birth of their first son, Samuel, in February, and Ben even paid a special tribute to Jen on Mother's Day, calling Jen a "world-class" mom.

American Idol Gets Ready to Crown a Winner and to Possibly Say Goodbye to Jennifer Lopez

American Idol finalists Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips went out on a high note last night, with each hopeful singing their heart out for the judges, studio audience, and fans watching at home. Each contestant performed three songs, one chosen by the show's producer, Simon Fuller; one of their choice; and an original single they'll release should they win. Jessica kicked things off by belting out Whitney Houston's "I Have Nothing" followed by Celine Dion's "The Prayer," and she took her final turn on Idol singing her potential single, "Change Nothing." Phillip, who won the coin toss and chose to perform last, began his night with Ben E. King's "Stand by Me," followed it up with Billy Joel's "Movin' Out," and closed the show with his coronation song, "Home."

All eyes were on the finalists. However, Jennifer Lopez stole a moment of the spotlight in a sexy, asymmetrical see-through bodysuit. Jen will be back on the stage again tonight to perform her latest track, "Follow the Leader." It could be J Lo's final curtain call, as her future on the show is still undecided. Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery briefly spoke about J Lo's rumored departure from Idol, saying, "I'd hate to see her go. Whatever happens happens. She's got a lot going for her, so she'll be fine."

Cannes Minireview: Killing Them Softly

Brad Pitt's gritty new project, Killing Them Softly (formerly titled Cogan's Trade, and based on a book of the same name), made its debut to the press at the Cannes Film Festival this morning. Considering the early hour of the screening and just how violent and drug-fueled it is as a film, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it overall. Pitt is at his best playing the ruthless assassin, and James Gandolfini can, of course, carry a mob movie.

Who's behind it? Like Sapphires and Lawless, it's another The Weinstein Company film here at the festival. Writer-director Andrew Dominik brings together an excellent cast of men to tell his story, including Ray Liotta in addition to Pitt and Gandolfini. With that much testosterone on screen, there's not much room for the ladies. In fact, there's barely a female to be seen in the film at all. At the center, there are two bumbling thieves, played by Scoot McNairy and Ben Mendelsohn, who shine in their own deeply messed-up ways - often seen sweating and using drugs. Pitt, who we have seen playing a ruthless assassin before, does it again, this time with slicked-back hair and a cigarette dangling from his mouth as he explains his preferred method of murder - "killing them softly," rather than listening to them plead.
What's it about? On paper, it's about a heist at a mob poker game gone wrong, but as both the director and Pitt spoke at the film's press conference after the screening, it's a much larger commentary on America's capitalist society. It's set in New Orleans against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis and election, with actual speeches from Barack Obama and Sarah Palin sprinkled throughout. As for the actual heist at stake, Frankie and Russell (McNairy and Mendelsohn) rob a poker game that was previously hit up as part of a scam put on by its own owner, Andrew (Liotta). Pitt's character, Jackie Cogan, is brought in by the larger mob bosses to assassinate the men. Wires are quickly crossed and it can be hard to tell who is working for whom, but with the crazy visuals and hilarious, sometimes unsettling, one-liners, it is a riveting watch. I, for one, was particularly amused by the scenes about Russell running a racket by stealing purebred dogs.
More important even than the story, however, is the feel of the film. It takes place and was shot in New Orleans, a city which Pitt is clearly comfortable in. It's not quite a love letter to the city - or to anything for that matter - like The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but it still has that uniquely gritty and stylized New Orleans feel.

What did I think? The performances, especially by Gandolfini, could start award-season buzz, depending on how and when Killing Them Softly is released stateside. While the film is not for the faint of heart, it's a thought-provoking watch. The humor and political commentary keep it from being a straightforward mob movie, therefore setting it apart from being the same story we've seen 100 times before. Plus, Pitt's swagger, Gandolfini's monologue expertise, and a pack of dogs are welcome at any movie for me. Watch out for the last line, though, it will stick with you.

Brad Pitt Tells a Cannes Crowd That He and Angelina Have No Wedding Date Yet

Brad Pitt began his tour of Cannes this morning on behalf of his new movie, Killing Them Softly. He rose early for a photocall with director Andrew Dominik, producer Dede Gardner, and costars Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn, and Ray Liotta. The gang was together as well for an afternoon press conference. In addition to chatting about the film, Brad spoke about his personal life. He said that fiancée Angelina Jolie unfortunately will not be with him on the red carpet tonight, and that they have yet to even set a wedding date. They may, though, work on a movie together soon. Here are highlights from Brad's talk:

On making another movie with Angelina: "We'd love to."
On why Angelina isn't at Cannes: "She's not here now. She's prepping for a movie that she starts very soon."
On having set a date for the wedding: "We actually really, truly have no date."
On if, as a dad, he had a hard time playing a violent character: "Not at all. Violence is an accepted part of the gangster world. I'd have a harder time playing a racist than some guy who shoots another guy in the face."

Ben Affleck Has a Busy Saturday With Violet and Seraphina

Ben Affleck kept an eye on daughters Violet and Seraphina Affleck Saturday while out shopping in LA. The trio swung by Williams-Sonoma, possibly picking up a Mother's Day present for Jennifer Garner, and happened to run into Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez outside the shop. Ben and Halle shared a hug and chatted before the groups went on their separate ways.

Later in the afternoon, Ben swung by Hank Azaria's Playing for Good poker tournament. Yesterday was all about Jennifer for the Garner-Affleck family. Last week, though, Ben got a head start on the Mother's Day celebrations. Ben posted a video on Facebook thanking the ladies in his life, saying, "I want to say Happy Mother's Day to the moms in my life: my mom Chris and my amazing wife Jennifer, who is an incredible, spectacular, world-class mom."
