A Winning World Series Menu For Giants Fans

San Francisco couldn't be more excited for the Giants to enter the World Series.

San Francisco couldn't be more excited for the Giants to enter the World Series. The whole city is lit up in orange, and the streets are peppered with proud fans donned in Giants paraphernalia. The lucky few spent a precious sum to attend the actual games, but for those of us at home, you can still get a taste of the AT&T Ballpark with these San Francisco ballpark favorites.

Anchor Steam Beer

Brewed in San Francisco since 1896 and beloved by natives of the area, Anchor Steam beers are a foggy city trademark. Thick and hardy, this beer keeps San Franciscans warm when huddled in the AT&T Ballpark on cold, foggy nights.

Garlic Fries

Gilroy garlic fries are a must purchase when entering AT&T Ballpark. The skin-on fries are tossed in minced garlic and parsley. Wash 'em down with a beer, large soda, or even hot chocolate. To make at home, toss hot french fries in a metal bowl with about a tablespoon of minced garlic and half a tablespoon of parsley until the fries are evenly coated.

Meet a Sporty (and Festive) Rally Monkey Baby

She may be only 2.5 weeks old, but the San Francisco Zoo's baby François langur monkey is already causing quite a stir. Born bright orange, François langurs eventually turn black, but this wee October-born one not only seems ready for trick-or-treating and spooky Halloween hijinks, but she has also arrived just in time — and in the perfect team colors — to root on her hometown's Major League Baseball team as they play for the World Series title. Heralded as the orange and black San Francisco Giants' rally monkey, her official name is still out for debate. But according to the zoo's Facebook page, the front-runners are Scutaro (for Giants second baseman and NLDS Most Valuable Player Marco Scutaro) and Posey (for Giants catcher and National League Comeback Player of the Year Buster Posey).

Of course, Detroit's mascot, the tiger, also carries favorable markings for the season, but as some have noted, these noble felines also wear Giants team colors, if you're the superstitious betting type! For more photos and a video of this adorable primate babe, just keep reading.

Do You Introduce Orange in the Fall?

Chez Larsson recently wrote an adorable post all about how she's introduced orange into her home for Fall.

Chez Larsson recently wrote an adorable post all about how she's introduced orange into her home for Fall. She admits she's not a huge fan of Halloween, but just the few elements of orange she chose still really did the trick.

Here in San Francisco, the mania of the Giants' World Series win continues, so a palette of orange and black is everywhere I turn, even though Halloween has passed. The ticker tape from our Giants parade here on Wednesday is also on every street corner downtown, and I'm not sure it'll ever disappear! That said, I think I'm a little orange'd out for now, but I do love how other people are bringing bits of the warm hue into their homes for the season. Do you introduce orange into your home in the Fall?

Take Me Out to the Ball Game With Homemade Cracker Jacks

Since the Giants will be playing in the World Series this year, there's quite a buzz in the air in San Francisco.

Since the Giants will be playing in the World Series this year, there's quite a buzz in the air in San Francisco. It only seems appropriate to celebrate with a quintessential ball park dish, Cracker Jacks. While there might not be a prize, the flavor is a home run! The recipe has you pop your own bag of popcorn, and I was amazed at how easy it was. All you need is a little bit of olive oil. The popcorn is fresh and ready for a deliciously easy caramel sauce. In less than a half hour, you'll have Cracker Jacks. Don't forget to occasionally stir the mixture once it's drying on the cookie sheets — this ensures that it won't stick. Enjoy the World Series this week with a homemade batch of Cracker Jacks: just keep reading for the recipe.

Team Psychology: The Benefit of Losing

When the San Francisco Giants won entry into the World Series Saturday night, I was not watching the game in San Francisco.

When the San Francisco Giants won entry into the World Series Saturday night, I was not watching the game in San Francisco. But I knew the second they won from cheers in the street, firecrackers in the air, and the voice of a policewoman over a bullhorn saying they will arrest anyone for igniting fireworks. It made me ask a question sports psychologists have queried for decades: if winning feels so good for fans, how bad is losing?

Bad enough that a study last year found losing is associated with increases in domestic violence, but it's not all negative. In fact, people who follow sports, particularly notoriously losing teams, are more likely to have better emotional resilience than the rest of us. And when a losing team wins, victory is much sweeter.
