Since fall has started I've been obsessed with all things pumpkin, including pumpkin ice cream and frozen yogurt. I decided to make a healthy frozen treat at home by whipping up a pumpkin pie smoothie. This recipe was originally posted on my healthy living blog, Eating Bird Food.

Healthy Recipe: Spicy and Savory Smoothie

Smoothies are generally easy to swallow, especially the sweet ones.

Smoothies are generally easy to swallow, especially the sweet ones. Add a banana and some berries to a blender, and even the pickiest of eaters can hardly resist it — even with spinach and kale added to the mix. I could sip on fruit-flavored green shakes every day, but I'm also starting to dig some savory swigs as well. Instead of masking the veggies with their seeded garden friends, I'm letting some bold vegetables take center stage with a flavorful jalapeño smoothie from Victoria Boutenko's Green for Life ($19). Healthy Recipe: A Smoothie Fit For Popeye

When I don't have the time to sit down and eat a well-balanced breakfast in the morning, which happens all too often, I whip up a quick spinach and fruit smoothie that gives me energy, fills my belly, and fuels my tank with all the right foods.

When I don't have the time to sit down and eat a well-balanced breakfast in the morning, which happens all too often, I whip up a quick spinach and fruit smoothie that gives me energy, fills my belly, and fuels my tank with all the right foods. The spinach may sound strange, but the other ingredients mask the flavor. Before I can get into the carpool line, I've already sucked down fresh veggies, yogurt, and fruit to boot. And better yet? So have my kids.

Try This Post-Workout Treat: Smoothie Bowls

I just came across this mouthwatering idea from the OnSugar blog Twins That Blog.

I just came across this mouthwatering idea from the OnSugar blog Twins That Blog.

With the weather getting warmer and summertime approaching, I have a new breakfast obsession — Smoothie Bowls. Apparently many bloggers call this a SIAB (Smoothie in a Bowl) for short. Well, I have just recently started experimenting with SIABs, and I love them. This is just what I need after a morning run. It's a simple, refreshing, easy, and filling breakfast. It's exactly what it sounds like — a smoothie poured into a bowl instead of into a glass, and it is usually topped with granola, fruit, or other toppings. You eat it with a spoon, like cereal.

New "Make at Home" Jamba Juice Smoothies

After working out it's really important to eat because it fuels lost energy and repairs damage to torn muscle.

After working out it's really important to eat because it fuels lost energy and repairs damage to torn muscle. After my workouts I usually snack on an apple, some yogurt, or a fruit smoothie from Naked Juice. Supermodel Gisele Bundchen knows the importance of a post-workout meal too. Just last week she was spotted sipping on a Jamba Juice smoothie after leaving the gym. While a lot of the offerings at Jamba Juice can be calorie bombs, the chain does offer many low-calorie smoothies that can also be made with the addition of soy protein or nonfat yogurt. And in a new twist, it just started offering low-calorie "make your own smoothie" mixes at grocery stores.

Each package makes two eight-ounce smoothies, totaling 120 calories each — all you have to do is add apple juice. Besides being low in calories, they're made with real fruit, nonfat yogurt, and an antioxidant booster, and contain no corn syrup. So far only the chain's three most popular flavors are being offered: Razzmatazz, Mango-a-Go-Go, and Strawberries Wild. I'm bummed because I haven't seen any at my grocery store yet, but when I do, I am definitely going to try it.

In the meantime I'm going to make smoothies from scratch, like this green smoothie, almond berry banana smoothie, or chocolate-espresso smoothie. Are you a smoothie-holic like I am? What's your fave?

Post Run Treat: Chocolate-Espresso Smoothie

I like a smoothie.

I like a smoothie. There is no denying it. I just found a recipe from Runner's World that would surely get your blood pumping. Created by a pastry chef who logs 15 miles a week, this smoothie is fortified with espresso and would be the perfect post run treat. If you run in the morning this could even replace your morning cup of joe.

You Asked: Banana Smoothie

Smoothies are such a great treat.

Smoothies are such a great treat. Especially in the heat of summer. A Sugar user recently asked for a good smoothie recipe that doesn't contain berries since she is allergic.

I just found this recipe from Healthy Chef Alex. She is Mogan Spurlock's girlfriend - you might know him as the Super Size me guy and she is the "vegan girlfriend."

This recipe is tasty - everyone in my family loved it. It is definitely a healthy redo of the Peanut Butter Moo'd from Jamba Juice. Before you mock my bruised bananas, let me just say the more ripe the bananas the sweeter the smoothie. Once it is frozen fruit just doesn't taste as sweet, so put those overripe bananas to use.
