Video: Reese Witherspoon Cancels Public Appearances After Her Arrest! Plus, What Her Maximum Sentence Could Be
Reese Witherspoon decides to lay low after her arrest last Friday. She has been spotted with friends and recently canceled all public appearances for her new movie, Mud. Plus, we're looking at the possible outcome from her arrest.
Reese Witherspoon Speaks Out About Her Arrest Following Mud Premiere
Reese Witherspoon, who donned Saint Laurent, posed with Matthew McConaughey at the NYC premiere of their film, Mud, last night. They were also joined by costar Sarah Paulson, as well as director Jeff Nichols, for the movie's Big Apple debut. Reese and Matthew were both accompanied by their significant others for the evening out. Matthew posed with his wife, Camila Alves, while Reese had husband Jim Toth nearby.
Reese seemed to be in good spirits despite her run-in with the law over the weekend. Reese and Jim were both arrested on Friday night in Atlanta, where she is currently shooting The Good Lie. Jim was charged with a DUI, and Reese was cited with a disorderly conduct charge after disobeying the police during Jim's arrest. Reese and Jim's mug shots were released yesterday. Today, Reese issued a statement on her arrest, apologizing for her behavior towards the police officer. She said, "I do want to say, I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behavior."
Matthew McConaughey Opens Up About Lance and Premieres Mud at Sundance
Matthew McConaughey was still looking lean, but clearly has been working to put back on the pounds as he premiered his movie Mud at Sundance on Saturday night. Reese Witherspoon, Matthew's leading lady in the film, didn't join him for the Park City, UT, red carpet. Matthew and Reese debuted their film in Cannes, and since then, it has been quietly gaining positive buzz and momentum. In recent months, the headlines about Matthew have been all about his weight loss for The Dallas Buyers Club, but this weekend, fans want to know about something else — his friendship with Lance Armstrong and his feelings about Lance's fall from grace. Matthew opened up a bit about his feelings of anger and disappointment in the wake of Lance's admissions. Matthew said that he was "pissed off" at Lance initially and that part of him took it personally, but then he felt sad when he watched Lance's interview.

Mud Trailer: Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon Are Mysterious Drifters
Though it seems almost impossible that romantic-comedy veterans Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon have never played love interests on screen, Mud marks the first time they're playing opposite each other. However, the trailer for the indie drama looks far from lighthearted. McConaughey plays a fugitive who appears on a small island in the Mississippi River and befriends two young boys who let him hide out in their boat. Witherspoon plays Mud's estranged love, though it's not clear whether the couple is meant for each other or better off apart — or whether Mud is a falsely accused good guy or a villain who's just manipulating the boys into keeping his secret.
McConaughey has been getting lots of accolades for his acting lately, and his work in Mud may garner him more; I was impressed with his performance in the preview alone. Even though we don't get to see them interact, I'm looking forward to seeing him paired with Witherspoon (who gets to use her own Southern accent). I'm also interested in seeing Michael Shannon in the film, whose presence gives Mud just a little more ominousness. Mud will come out at Sundance, and then open for wide release on April 26, but you can watch the preview after the jump.
Reese Witherspoon Sparkles in Blue Next to Handsome Matthew McConaughey
Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey posed for photographers before climbing the grand staircase at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Mud Saturday. Reese chose a glamorous blue Versace gown for the formal event, while Matthew modeled a sexy tuxedo. Matthew and Reese began their day at a photocall for the film before capping off their evening with a screening and afterparty. It's Matthew's second premiere since arriving in France. He hit the red carpet on Thursday with Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and John Cusack at The Paperboy's star-studded premiere. The annual festival comes to a close this weekend. However, if you're hoping to look back at the glamorous parties and fabulous fashion, we've rounded up all the hottest photos from Cannes!
Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey Reconnect in Cannes
Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey were all smiles posing side by side today at their Cannes photocall for Mud. Pregnant Reese wore a Versace dress that accentuated her growing baby bump. During a press conference earlier today, Reese talked about her supporting role in Mud, saying, "I grew up with my brother in a creek, riding dirt bikes, dirt fishing, everything you see the boys in the movie doing. When I read Jeff's script, it felt like home. It's a beautiful story about the place I'm from." Reese and Matthew are expected at tonight's red-carpet premiere as well.
What We're Sweet On: Ultrablack Mascara That Won't Flake or Clump
It's difficult to come by a mascara formulation that's neither so heavy and wet that it clumps, nor so dry that it flakes. But with Make-Up Designory's Black Cream Mascara ($14), you'll get intensely black, intensely thick lashes. What you won't get, however, is mascara fail: spider-y lashes with bits of product that end up on your cheeks and under the eyes by day's end. The squeezable tube, designed to keep mascara from going bad or drying out, also creates less waste and clumpiness. While you'll want to use a lighter hand (or a fan brush as the brand recommends) on the inner corners of the eyes to avoid overkill, for the rest of your lashes, you can layer it on as thick as you want. How often do you really get to do that, anyway?
Reese Goes From Church in LA to Black Eyes and Tiny Shorts on Set in Little Rock
Reese Witherspoon went to church with her family in Santa Monica yesterday morning after spending part of last week in Arkansas to start filming Mud. Reese was sporting short shorts and carrying wedges for her scene in the movie, which costars good friend and husband Jim Toth's client, Matthew McConaughey. The actress's dark eyes may have come from the makeup department this time; though, Reese was recently hit by a car from which she still has a noticeable bump on her head. Reese hasn't let the accident break her stride, and she smiled big as she attended service with Jim and her son, Deacon.
