PETA Plans to Launch Porn Site to Promote Veganism

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is no stranger to using sex appeal to get people's attention.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is no stranger to using sex appeal to get people's attention. In the past, the vegan activist group has used images of nude celebs, like Alicia Silverstone, in ads to convince people to give up meat, but now PETA is taking this tactic one giant step further. The animal rights' group plans to launch a pornographic website to promote its message about going vegan.

According to PETA spokeswoman Lindsay Rajt, the new website, peta.xxx, will feature "tantalizing" videos and photographs to get its animal rights messages across. Unfortunately, PETA has discovered that its racier ads and actions work best, and it's a surefire "way to get people to stand up and pay attention about the plight of animals."

November is the earliest that PETA can get approval for this controversial site, so don't try to visit the above address just yet (I don't blame you for being curious!). Critics think this is a bad move for PETA. Sure, it may get people's attention at first, but not the ones who care about animals. This new website could end up offending a lot of people who would otherwise love to hear about the ethical and health-related reasons people should go vegan. What do you think?

Vegan, Seagan, Vegetarian — What Do You Call Your Diet?

When deciding what to eat, there are countless camps to choose from: omnivores, vegans, vegetarians, and more (don't forget the g-frees!).

When deciding what to eat, there are countless camps to choose from: omnivores, vegans, vegetarians, and more (don't forget the g-frees!). With all the ways to eat, identifying with a certain label can be convenient for conveying the restrictions of your diet without having to list every single thing you can and can't eat.

But what about modified diets like seagan? Lately we've been hearing this term more and more; "seagan diet" was coined to differentiate between pescetarians, who like seagans don't eat other types of meat except seafood, but unlike them still eat dairy and eggs, and seems to have a growing following. While the diet sounds healthy — lots of fresh whole foods and omega 3s! — the idea that a seagan is in any way a vegan has struck some as odd, since vegans often avoid all animal products for reasons that are more than diet-based.

Seaganism isn't the only modified diet on the block; every day there's a new word for a new diet (flexitarians, anyone?) that has more to do with what you allow yourself to eat rather than lifestyle changes. What do you think of terms like "seaganism"? Do you identify with a diet whether or not you agree with the other aspects of the lifestyle?

Even Vegans Aren't Immune to Heart Disease

Being that February is heart health month, it's a good time to review how to keep your ticker ticking properly.

Being that February is heart health month, it's a good time to review how to keep your ticker ticking properly. Ditching artery-clogging meat and dairy products, which increase risk for heart disease, sounds like a step in the right direction, but unfortunately going vegan like Alicia Silverstone doesn't automatically put you on the safe list. According to research, vegans may not be getting enough iron, zinc, vitamin B12, and omega-3 fatty acids from their diets, which are all essential for a healthy cardiovascular system.

On the plus side, vegans do tend to have lower BMIs (body mass index) and cholesterol levels. But to do their hearts good, vegans need to make sure to get their fill of the heart-healthy essential vitamins and nutrients mostly found in meat and dairy products. Learn where to find those nutrients in a plant-based diet.

Have You Ever Tried Cupping Like Jessica and Gwyneth?

The value of Eastern medicine must have left a big impression on Jessica Simpson while filming The Price of Beauty earlier this year.

The value of Eastern medicine must have left a big impression on Jessica Simpson while filming The Price of Beauty earlier this year. On Sunday, the actress sent out several tweets about the work she was doing with healer Master Wang, founder of the Medicine Buddha Temple in San Francisco.

"Shocked my system with a vegan diet, special Pu-erh tea from China, and cupping since friday! Who am I right now? This might be too clean!"

Jessica went on to ask her Twitter followers if any of them have tried the 3,000-year-old acupressure therapy of cupping, saying "the meditation creates intense visions." Traditionally in cupping, glass cups are heated with fire to reduce air pressure and create a vacuum on the skin. The heated cups are placed onto the skin's surface and as the cup cools down, the skin is sucked up inside. More modern cupping does away with the flames and uses a mechanical suction pump to remove air from inside the cup. Cupping is believed to stimulate and/or restore blood flow to specific areas of the body to encourage balance and healing.

Jessica made a point to say that she wasn't doing any of this for weight loss. She tweeted that it was to understand her "body through hydration and alkalinty." She's not the only celeb to try cupping. In 2004, Gwyneth Paltrow showed up to a film premiere with a series of telltale bruises that are typical following a cupping procedure. Tell me . . .

Alicia Silverstone Talks Eating Vegan and Gardening Naked

Alicia Silverstone knows that eating well can help the planet, which is one reason she decided to swear off meat and dairy and adopt a vegan lifestyle.

Alicia Silverstone knows that eating well can help the planet, which is one reason she decided to swear off meat and dairy and adopt a vegan lifestyle. But it's not all selfless: she also appreciates how her improved diet makes her look younger and glowing.

In a new interview with Health, the Clueless star talks about her eating philosophy, her line of cruelty-free beauty products, and her book The Kind Diet, coming out in October. Here are highlights:

  • On why she wrote the book: "Once you're informed, then you can be really gentle and kind to yourself, by giving yourself all the gifts life has to offer — like mental clarity and vitality — all while making the planet better."
  • On why she went vegan: "I didn't come at it, honestly, from a health point of view. I was 21 when I went vegan. And when anybody told me to be healthy, I thought people were just telling me [to lose weight] because I'm in this business. So I was like, 'Go F yourself!' [Laughs.] Yet when I look at those pictures from back then, I can see the puffiness in my eyes. It's weird to be 32 now and feel and look younger. . . . Right after I first made the switch to a plant-based diet, people were literally telling me, 'What have you done? You’re sparkling.'"
