Her show, Desperate Housewives, may be full of melodrama, but Felicity Huffman is refreshingly down to earth. The 45-year-old star appears on the September cover of More magazine, looking fabulous and speaking frankly about her fitness habits and finding a healthy balance.
I particularly like what she had to say about finding a personal trainer with a realistic attitude:
"I've had a lot of trainers through the years, and they’re always like, 'Oh my god, you ate a muffin?' and 'What do you mean you weigh 125? You can’t shoot at that weight.' [Kirsten Holtgreen is] the first trainer who's said, 'You’re not eating enough.'"

Obesity is not only bad for your health, but it could be doing a number on your wallet too. Newsweek recently outlined the the top five costs associated with obesity and it's interesting to see what more than a third of our country's population could be spending (or losing) money on. I've outlined some highlights in the following slideshow.

I love finding new ways to use seasonal produce, and lately, the tomatoes here — especially the multicolored heirloom varieties — have been irresistible. One of the best ways to feature fabulous tomatoes is in a classic caprese salad made with mozzarella cheese and basil. Since I found some good-looking basil and eggplant at the farmers market, I decided to try this variation.
To make the dish healthier, I used part-skim mozzarella, and instead of beefsteak tomatoes, I used heirlooms. Though this recipe is designed to yield two appetizer servings, I just ate the two eggplant stacks for dinner with nothing else. It was plenty filling and a great way to work fresh veggies into mealtime. To get the recipe, read more
So many people I know are always complaining of lower back pain and tight shoulders from sitting all day. We're either standing or hunched over a desk and we hardly ever bend our backs in the opposite direction. So give this One-Legged Inverted Staff Pose a try. It's similar to the grounding backbend Inverted Staff pose, but you'll also feel this one in your hamstrings and hips.
Sanskrit Name: Eka Pada Viparita Dandasana English Translation: One-Legged Inverted Staff Pose Also Called: One-Legged Headstand Backbend
Though the Summer Olympics could stand to add a few more sports, there are plenty of popular events to choose from. (There are also some mighty obscure ones, but more on those later.) If you could participate in one of the more mainstream Olympic sports, what would it be?
The Hills is back with another season tonight and while I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I am excited to watch it, I do know that many of you outwardly love it. I thought a little recap of the ways we've watched the girls get fit could inspire us to watch the show on the treadmill tonight . . . or maybe not, but don't say I didn't try.

In case you missed it, and I honestly don't know how you could have, swimmer Michael Phelps accomplished what he set out to do and won eight gold medals in Beijing. Phelps won more gold medals than any other athlete during one Olympic games. Wow! It has been truly amazing to watch history in the making.
Other swimming news, the oldest female swimmer to ever compete in the Olympics Dara Torres (age 41) won three silver medals. She lost the gold in her signature event, the 50m freestyle by .01 seconds to 24-year-old German Britta Steffan. Torres joked that she shouldn't have filed her nails that day. After this most recent comeback, Dara will be retiring from competitive swimming and is looking forward to taking her 2-year-old daughter to school next week.
