I am firm believer in deep breathing. It is the cheapest way to relax when you're stressed out. Unfortunately, stress can bring on shallow breaths. These little gulps of air decrease the amount of oxygen in the blood. Ann Pardo, a director at Canyon Ranch spa, told Fitness magazine that shallow breathing can even affect the skin, making it appear "dull and sallow." Don't let the end-of-year stress wind you up and negatively impact your skin tone. Take the time to breathe deeply when you feel the tension coming on. Inhale slowly for five counts and exhale in the same manner. You won't only look better, but you will feel better, too.

As a kid, I was such a huge fan of the show Full House. I loved the oldest daughter, D.J. Tanner, played by Candace Cameron, because of her cool clothes and awesome '80s hair. I was surprised to hear she had insecurities about her weight. In an interview with US Weekly she recalls, "I felt chubby. I didn't fit into a lot of my wardrobe. I know it showed on TV." Candace also said, "There were never comments for me to lose weight, even when I was a few pounds heavier than everyone else on TV." Her older brother, Kirk Cameron starred in Growing Pains, and his costar, Tracey Gold suffered from an eating disorder. Candace's parents didn't want her to feel that kind of pressure, so they didn't encourage her to lose weight.

When something is classified as a superfood, that doesn't mean it's invincible. Açaí is healthy because it's an excellent source of antioxidants, fiber, amino acids, and heart-healthy fatty acids that aid in digestion. All of those qualities have led experts to call the berry a superfood, but its popularity was turned into something of a scheme when it began to be marketed as a weight-loss aid.
Sales of açaí products multiplied over the last year as more consumers discovered the benefits of the nutritious fruit and some companies learned how to take advantage of the growing hype by including the berry in weight-loss products. When you love to run and daylight is limited, you might feel a little pinched for time. One way people save time is skipping the cool down since it is cold outside anyway. I am here to remind you that no matter the length of your run you need to cool down.
Cooling down after a run isn't really about lowering your body temperature. It is about allowing your heart rate to slow down gradually so you don't shock your cardiovascular system. When running, your heart pumps large amounts of blood to your legs and skipping a cool down means blood will pool in them, overtaxing your heart. Since one of the reasons to run is to keep your heart healthy, you don't want to end a workout leaving your heart in a lurch. So pay attention to your heart rate rather than your temperature.
A good cool down will also help reduce sore muscles. It generally requires jogging slowly for five minutes, followed by five minutes of walking. The walking will help stretch your hip flexors, too. If it is too cold outside, move the walking portion of your cool down inside. I will admit when I do this, my dog gets very confused as I pace around, but my heart and leg appreciate it.
