If you are desk bound all day, taking a break from work is absolutely essential. Even if you can only get up and walk around for ten minutes, it's better than nothing.
You'll be more likely to take a walking break if you keep a pair of sneakers with you at work. This bypasses the excuse that you can't speed walk in stilettos. Just slip on your sneaks, get out of the office, and give your brain and body a break.
Fit's Tip: Just because these aren't the sneakers you normally exercise in, doesn't mean you should keep an old beat-up pair at the office. Old sneaks can cause foot and back pain, so make sure your work pair is supportive and comfortable. If you're not sure, then give them the twist test.

If you're a fan of artificial sweeteners for weight loss then you may want to rethink it before you tear open a packet.
New research has found that saccharin altered the ability of rats to control their appetites. Why? Well apparently it is based on the subconscious. For most of us, a sweet taste is a sign that calories are on their way. The problem comes in when sweetness is not followed by calories. This can lead to confusion in the body's digestive system, and the metabolism rate may not gear up as much the next time sweetness is tasted. The result is that over time our bodies may learn to not expect much in terms of getting calories from sweet foods, leading us to consume more and more, artificial or not.
The semigood news? The head of an artificial sweetener trade group dismissed such claims, saying they don't translate to human behavior. Hum.
Me, I've never been a fan of artificial sweeteners for many reasons (mainly taste) but this just adds to my list of reasons to avoid them. What about you guys — do you regularly eat artificial sweeteners?

After a long run or a good leg workout, my hamstrings always feel tight. This is one of my favorite stretches for hamstrings called the Lying Hamstring Stretch. Here's how to do it:

- Lie on your back and lift your right knee up. Grasp behind your thigh near your knee with both hands and pull knee close to chest.
- Slowly extend your knee as you straighten your legs (get as straight as possible, but not so much that it hurts) while trying to keep it close to chest.
- Hold stretch for 30 seconds.
- Repeat with opposite leg.
Fit's Tip: Beginners should bend the leg not being stretched at the knee (as pictured). More advanced folks whose hip flexors are not super tight should try to keep the leg not being stretch straight on the ground. Don't feel bad if your leg isn't as close to your face as it is in the image above; normal range of motion in this direction for the hamstring is about 80 to 90 degrees, meaning the leg is perpendicular to the floor.
