Usually refers to "naturally produced" foods. It is food from plants and animals that have been grown without the use of any pesticides or synthetic fertilizer/chemicals or antibiotics, growth hormones or feed additives.
To be certified organic, products must be grown and manufactured in a way that follows the standards set in the country they're sold. In the US it's the <a href="http://www.ams.usda.gov/nop/NOP/standards.html">National Organic Program Standards</a>.
