When Spring rolls around, I like to buy myself a new running outfit (complete with a sports bra), to get me excited about running outside. When I was shopping for my new bra, I had some criteria. I didn't want a racerback, since I'd be running outside and my back gets super sweaty (did someone say bacne?). I also wanted it to have a clasp closure in the back, since peeling a sweaty sports bra over my head after a workout is not the most pleasant thing. So I found what I was looking for in the Champion Action Comfort Sports Bra ($29.99).
Don't you love how it looks like a real bra? Don't be deceived though since this baby offers amazing support. It may not be the best bra if you have a DD bust and like to run, but it'll definitely keep your girls in place if you're jogging with an A or B cup size. If you've got a little bit more going on in the chest department, this is great to wear under a tank top that has a shelf bra attached. I liked that the straps were adjustable, although my favorite part about this bra is that it has two separate padded cups. That means it makes your boobs look more attractive instead of looking like one big smooshy mound. It also prevents the world from knowing that you're cold (if you know what I mean). If you're in the market for a new sports bra, I'd try this one out. It may be your new favorite.
I am always looking for comfy and flattering workout pants. I just found these pants by Champion that are perfect for Pilates or yoga. The Champion Cross Over Contrast Pants ($40) are made from a mixture of cotton, Lycra, and spandex so they stretch and move with ease.
Best of all they are flattering (my husband even called them "distracting") with a generous cut in the thighs leading to a bootleg flare at the cuff. The inseam is 31 in. I didn't need to futz with or rearrange them once during an hour and a half of yoga. Nor did they need any rearranging during a short and quick strength-training session on the second wearing and a wash later. Yep, these pants are machine washable, too. Buy them directly from Amazon and save 20 percent on the retail price.
How frustrating is it that fitness gear, the good stuff at least, can do some serious damage to your cash flow? This is why I love finding a sale and spreading the word.
And word has it that Champion is having online Grab & Go Specials. There is lots of gear basics for men and women on sale and available at affordable prices. Personally, I am loving these Body Balance Crossover Contrast Pants (
$40.00 $34.99) because I can always use an extra pair of basic and cute black workout pants. Check out the sale now at Champion.com.
Sports bras are a very personal thing. Aside from wanting our breasts to be supported, we all have different needs and preferences when it comes to choosing the perfect sports bra.
I've realized that most sports bras have racer backs, and sometimes, if they're not cut thin enough, they can rub against your inner shoulders blades. They also look kind of weird if you're wearing a tank top that has spaghetti straps. Plus all that material on your back gives you an awful tan-line if you exercise outside and doesn't let your back breathe (did someone say bacne?).
I've discovered the Champion Double Dry Seamless Full Support Underwire Sports Bra.
"Support" is this bra's middle name, and it comes in sizes all the way to 40DD, so you can ban the bounce. The fabric is soft, comfy, and flexible, with NO seams to irritate you. It's made of wicking material called Double-Dry, to get moisture off your skin so you stay drier during workouts and cool down faster afterwards.
All that and it has triple-cushioned under-wires to add gently contoured lift, and molded cups inside to support without flattening your boobs to your chest (nice!).
The straps are adjustable and the back has a hook closure just like a regular bra, so you can get as tight a fit as you want. It does all this for $40 and comes in Black, White, or Bayshore Blue. Who knew I could get so excited about a sports bra!
