My kids are in a Halloween frenzy, and it's rubbed off on me! Instead of hosing down the house with generic store-bought decor, we're focusing on a few spaces, using DIY projects. The mantel is one of the easiest places to showcase a new holiday.

DIY Idea: Polka-Dot Tray

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member cberisic from the Su Casa group: Why, yes, I have a love for polka dots!

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member cberisic from the Su Casa group:

Why, yes, I have a love for polka dots! So when it came time to redo an old tray that I found in a thrift store, I sprayed on some white glossy paint, grabbed a pencil with a nice round eraser, dipped it in some black paint, and got to dotting! It was a quick and simple project that added a bit of pizzazz to the piece.

I've been in search of a small dresser or desk that would work in my master bathroom to house all my make-up and hair stuff. Recently, I came across this cute dresser at a local antiques store for $40 and refinished it this past weekend.

How to Create a Gorgeous Outdoor Coffee Table

We've recently been having a major drought in Indianapolis, but last Thursday we had a major 15-minute rain and wind storm, which resulted in my coffee table breaking into pieces. I have to admit I wasn't so sad it happened.

I decided to buy a sturdy piece of second hand furniture and paint it. This is what I found.

I primed the piece and then used some leftover paint I had in my garage. After I painted it I decided it needed something else, so I added one of Martha Stewart's stencils and added some white paint to the green paint I already used on the base of the table. I love the result!

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member ourfifthhouse from the Su Casa group:

I'd been dreaming of painting the interior doors in my family/living room for. like. ever. I just kept chickening out, worried that maybe I'd regret my decision to paint them. In the end I'm so glad I decided to follow my instincts — after all it's just paint. If I tire of the black I can always repaint . . . but I don't think I'll be tiring of the black any time soon.

Before and After: A Laundry Room Lightens Up

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member h2urHome.

This is one of those rooms that seemed to take forever to finally finish — that is, if I ever really thought any of my rooms were actually finished!

We moved into our new home a few years ago, and I knew one of the first projects I wanted to tackle was my laundry room. Other than a utility sink that was falling apart, the room was empty.

Here's a little corner of the room. Notice the two-toned paint treatment that didn't match the walls.

Here's the corner now . . .

DIY: Lacquered Pots

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member Seefree from the Su Casa group:

When Summer rolls around, I love adding bright pops of color . . . especially in our backyard. I was dying to try out the RustOleum Farm Equipment line of spray paint, so I decided my basic white Ikea pots were the best guinea pig!

Since it's intended for farm equipment, I think it can handle the wear-and-tear of my back patio. The super-high-gloss finish gives it a strong, lacquered look . . . perfectly cheery and Summer-ready!

Before and After: A Found Dresser Gets a Fantastic Blue Face-Lift

Here's a post from Sarah, who shared this dresser makeover with the CasaSugar Community.

Here's a post from Sarah, who shared this dresser makeover with the CasaSugar Community.

There's an old, crumbling mosque behind my apartment building. One day my partner and I were walking by, and saw this dresser outside. It was in pretty good shape — all the woodwork was fine, it seemed sturdy and like it had probably just been sitting unused in a community room for a while. Ugly as heck though — it was an off-putting yellow, with some bronzey-goldish trim. The handles were dangling off, at least one was quite bent out of shape, and someone had taped the doors shut with masking tape because they were missing a latch. Neither of us is one to pass on free furniture, so we dragged it around the block and upstairs (it's quite a beast) and set to work.

I chose this light blue in semigloss (Benjamin Moore's "Old Pickup Blue") because it's a lighter version of our kitchen curtains, because I thought a light color would be a good contrast to the dark handles, and because we both like blue. We kept the original handles/drawer pulls, and my partner managed to fix the bent one and replace the inner latch on the doors. I'm pretty happy with how it came out. Thanks, neighborhood mosque!

A Summer-Inspired Screen Porch Makeover

Summer Refresh: A Nautical Living Room

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member stephaniepoli from the Su Casa group: With more beach days on the horizon I decided to give our living room a seaside refresh.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member stephaniepoli from the Su Casa group:

With more beach days on the horizon I decided to give our living room a seaside refresh. I created a series of little vignettes, incorporating graphic and natural elements. Shades of coral, blue, and gold lend themselves well to an otherwise neutral room palette.

I love decorating with plates. I scored these graphic nautical melamine ones from Michael's for a dollar each. They remind me of these ones from Thomas Paul. For more photos and details of this space, visit my blog Love & Lace.

A Smart Way to Use the Space in a Corridor

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member MonteSu from the Su Casa group: I don't like corridors — I think they are a waste of space.

Here's a post from CasaSugar Community member MonteSu from the Su Casa group:

Using space

I don't like corridors — I think they are a waste of space. In Spain, where I live, bedrooms are tiny, and flats are full of corridors. Here, I used the space in front of the kitchen to keep all the spices and some little antiques I have. At the moment, I took away the door, but in the future, I will knock down the wall of the kitchen and I will gain more light and enough space for a little table.

Here's a post from Juliana2641817 from the CasaSugar Community group Wedding Decor and DIYs.

My wedding was in September of 2011. I planned the colors/theme around our venue, a log cabin structure on a bend in the river. I wanted colors that were timeless and reflected the season. The first photo is an inspiration board I put together for the wedding, and the others are photos of the wedding itself.

Create Gorgeous Custom Roman Blinds (Without Sewing!)

Roman blinds are a wonderful option if you're looking to add pattern or color to windows, but prefer a more tailored look than curtains. Unlike curtains, roman blinds require a more precise fit, and custom options are usually pretty pricey. Blogger Cindy Berisic envisioned covering the windows in her office with roman blinds in a hot pink and white pattern. She shared her brilliant roman shades DIY with us, and we're so inspired by her technique that we wanted to also share it with you! The Premier Prints Gotcha White/Candy Pink fabric she chose is just under $8 per yard. Once she had her fabric, all she needed was measuring tape, scissors, fabric glue, and miniblinds. My now husband Andy and I are fascinated by the whimsical and by fantasy. We already had a beautiful setting at Calimigos Ranch in Malibu, CA, so it did not take much decorating to embellish it. All the invitations, programs, table numbers, and escort cards were DIYed by me. The lovely photography was done by Flutter Glass Photography.
