Would You Get a Flu Shot at the Airport?

While I was traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday I noticed an odd occurrences at the airport that I had never witnessed before — flu shots. Did anyone else see this? I kid you not, there were at least three flu shot stands scattered throughout the Chicago airport. I am not placing judgment on anyone who decides to get or not get the flu shot, but I just can not imagine getting it done in the middle of a terminal at one of the busiest airports in the world.

You know I am curious about your opinion on this one, so . . .

I agree with paperkid. I think shots should be done, for the most part, by someone who at least has access to your medical history.

I don't get flu shots, but that aside, I've seen worse places to get one. We had a drive thru flu shot place here.

I was at O'Hare a couple weeks ago and saw people getting flu shots, and i had the same thoughts as i walked by. For a second i thought i should stop since i had time and get one, and then i remembered i hate getting them because every time i do i get the flu! And when i don't get the shot, i seem to avoid the flu! Not sure why that happens, but those are my thoughts.

With qualified medical personnel administering the shots, what's the difference between an airport vs. the grocery store/shopping mall/YMCA (which are other locations where I've seen flu shots available)? It's more a question of whether you want to get the shot, or not.

I would do this; I've had several flu shots so I know I'm not likely to have bad reactions, and this way I have something to help kill some time waiting for my plane to arrive!

Seems like a super bad idea. Sometimes people have allergic reactions to those shots (for instance, I'm allergic to eggs and can't take them, but some people might not realize they have this allergy). On an airline thousands of feet in the air seems like a bad time to find out you have an allergy or that the shot's going to make you sick. Duh.

As long as everything is sterile I don't care. I can't imagine that it would be done much differently than how it's done at my school. They had a bunch of tables set up, I walked over to one, they wiped my arm done, stuck me with the needle, put on a band aid, and then I walked away. quick and easy.

I got my flu shot last year at O'Hare. Didn't get the flu and didn't die, so I guess it worked out OK. It was nice and convenient, although I thought it was interesting that when I've had them at the grocery store (how is that any better?) they always tell me to wait around for 15 minutes but they didn't ask me that at the airport. Makes me wonder if the grocery store just wants you to stick around to do some shopping....

I would absolutely get a flu shot at the airport. It's hard enough to find the time to go the doctor- I think it's a wonderful service to make it easier for people to be vaccinated. The people who administer the shot at the airport are the same people who administer the shot at your doctor's office, so there is no rational reason to distrust the shot simply because it's at an airport.

i don't really want to get one at all, not to speak in an airport. i don't like even eating there, not to mention let somebody put needles in me. i'd rather do it with my doctor in private room where it's quiet and comfy.
