Sitting all day long at a desk job is not only boring, but it's bad for your body. It can cause lower back pain, tight hips, and tense shoulders. Research also shows that not moving for hours on end actually turns off your fat burning enzymes and slows down your metabolism, causing gradual weight gain. Sitting can also lower your beneficial HDL cholesterol levels. The solution? Stand at work instead of sitting. Since it requires more effort, you'll burn more calories. It'd be great if you could raise your desk or purchase one that has adjustable legs. If that's not a possibility, try to find times during your day where you can get out of your chair. Stand while on the phone, while looking over paperwork, during lunch, while in meetings, or chatting with your co-worker. Maybe you can inspire a trend at your office. Maybe you can all sing "Stand" by REM together too!

Since my work surfaces alternate between a low desk and a taller lab bench, I try to make a point to stand as much as possible at the bench.
1I'm stuck at a super low desk with not a lot of chances at standing. I've wanted to stand since I started beacuse I know it's so bad.
2I don't have a choice in the matter...standing's my only option, since I am constanly running around the lab doing stuff. If I were to sit, I'd constantly be getting up and sitting down.
3I barely have any chances to stand, but I have a little group who always takes a walk in the afternoon - it's the best I can do:(
4I don't know, I think your lucky you get to sit at work, I have to stand all day and at the end of my shift my legs hurt sooooo bad. (At lest I can wear flats!)
5I am usually moving all about and when I use the computer I stand. For most of my 8hr day I am up and down or standing and also wearing Chung Shi shoes which help tone inactive muscles.
6i wish that i could stand while i work - even if it's just for a little bit but that's really not an option based on how my office is set up. when i used to work retail i would hate having to stand all the time, but you realize that it's not so bad for you once you realize that you have to be aware of shoes and all that stuff so that you don't hurt your back.
