Working out at home with a DVD is a great way to help meet your healthy goals for 2010.
This week's challenge: write a blog post in the Get Fit group reviewing your favorite fitness DVD. Remember to put an image of the DVD cover in your review. By meeting this challenge you will not only be thinking about fitness, which can only lead to good things, but you will be entered to win our weekly prize — a $100 Nike gift card.

Writing up your DVD review in the community group also enters you to win our fabulous grand prize: a $1,000 gift card from Nike; a year of personalized nutrition plans by nutritionist Alexa Fishback, plus a copy of her book; a year membership to 24 Hour Fitness for you and a friend; and two Bodybuggs. At the end of three months, we will pick a grand prize winner at random from all of the entries in all of the weekly challenges. Rodney Yee's Total Body Workout is fantastic. It takes place in front of the ocean in Maui, and it combines the mental-clarity that comes with yoga while providing a sweat-building workout.
1It's not a corny video where the host talks directly to viewer, but instead he simply does the routine and a voice over instructs you. I did it as a beginner to yoga a few years ago and it's not impossible to follow along. I have a few videos and this is the only one that's stayed with me, I sincerely suggest it.
i love Sadie nardini's vinyasa core yoga flow. it really gets your body moving and to focus in breathing. It challenges a lot of strength and i love the awesome feeling you get afterwards. the end of the workout provides abs which i LOVE so much.
i also love her voice. it really gets you moving and calms you at the same tiem!
2My favorite at the moment is Jillian Michaels' Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. I like it because there is no weights involved and gets your heart bumping. She does a mix of pylometrics and core training. It definitely makes me sweat and is less than an hour
3I absolutely love Tracy Anderson Method Perfect Design Series. Tracy has released a set of 4 dvds, which target the small muscle groups and give you that long lean dancer body that many women strive for, but never reach. There is a dance cardio dvd, which not only burns tons of calories, but is so fun. There are also three sequential toning videos which change your body almost immediately, and the different videos continually strengthen and challenge your muscles!
4I started to The FIRM about six years ago and have recently really gotten back into it. I LOVE the fact that there are weights and strength training involved. There are pictures from my wedding a couple months ago and the muscles on my back are great!! The mix of cardio and weights is perfect for me.
5I do the insanity workout DVD. Its a 60 day program that is well....insane. Its 6 days a weeks with 1 off day. This program not only challenges you physically but also mentally. A program like insanity take dedication. In order to see the results you have to put in the work which is extremely challenging. At times you feel like you cant go on but you find it inside of you to finish the interval.
6What I like about this DVD is the fact that it works AND you do not need any equipment. Its all body weight! All you need is space to do the workout which is like 5 by 5.
I've sweated like I never sweated before, its painfully and at times I curse at my TV (or Shaun T, the instructor) but its all worth it because it works. I've lost 6lbs so far and Ive toned up like I've never before. Before meaning going to the gym 4x a week on the cardio machines, weights and fitness classes in between.
If I can be the new spokesperson for this DVD I would. I love it and plan on doing it even after my 60 days is over.
Please check it out!
i've used the wii fit for a while and more recently got a wii fit plus. The options get boring quick, and most of them (like jogging in place) burn pitifully few calories. so the wii fit might be fun for a while, but it definitely won't give you much of a benefit, fitness-wise.
7plus, i'd much rather run outside or work out in the gym than run around my house with a little wii remote talking to me...
