Which Is the Worst: Pink Eye, Stomach Bug, or the Flu?

Nobody likes getting sick, but 'tis the season. I've seen so many illnesses going around my daughters' school, I shudder to think about catching one. So far so good, though. We've only suffered from minor colds. But we're lucky, because there are some monster viruses out there, and while being sick is the pits, some illnesses are worse than others.

For me, a 24-hour stomach bug is the absolute worst because I hate throwing up. You may feel differently though, so tell me . . .

Absolutely pinkeye. To me the worst thing is not being able to see. I have had this for 4 days now and my right eye is almost closed shut. I really do not get the stomach bug or flu often at all - so maybe that is why...but THIS is just hell.

shwizzlestick,you dont know what you are talking about ,i was rushed in hospital and put on a drip with a stomach bug, i collapsed on the bathroom floor and had to drag myself into the shower put it on cold, people have died with stomach bugs

Giasbash, if you're having stomach issues every night, it's not the stomach bug. You could have an ulcer, food allergy, or something else.

Anyone who didn't pick the flu has never actually had influenza. Neither pink eye nor a stomach virus is life threatening or even remotely as debilitating as the flu. Many people call the typical stomach virus "the flu" but they are wrong. Once you actually catch it, you'll know the difference.

The flu is hellacious for me because I basically can not function because I have the fever, I can't eat because I will vomit, basically I am a mess.

I would say the flu is the worst--you feel like absolute crap for like, a week or two. At least with a stomach bug or pink eye, you won't be sick for too long. Although, the last time I had pink eye, I had to wear my glasses for a week and it was a major pain in the butt.

omg stomach bug easily--throwing up is my least favorite thing to do in the world, and the flu is almost as bad (ughhh!). i have eye problems and often have pink eye and it is NOTHING, i can't believe anyone would even compare it to the others. yes its contagious for a period and you SHOULD stay home, but then you can go about your normal work, school, regular day. it's annoying, but not nearly as painful as the many eye ulcers i have had--no comparison! with the flu and stomach bug you are on the floor of the bathroom PUKING!

Are you kidding? Stomach bug hands down!! I get it every year (since I had kids) and am doing everythig I can to protect myself this year. Acidophilus, elderberry...any other advice?! It may be the only time I can actually sleep tho!

JanisRae You can get a note for pink eye. Especially if you work with customers, kids or in an office. It's super contagious! I hate stomach bugs the worst, I ate something funky this weekend and spent most of last night dry heaving over the loo. I was supposed to be dancing the night away in town but ended up hailing the porcelain gods instead. :( I don't get to go out often so it really sucked. At least you can eat what you like and still move around with pink eye and there are drugs to help you feel human when you've got the flu.

The flu! Especially for people like me with a lower immune system and an inflammatory bowel disease called ulcerative colitis. I can't believe pink eye is even in the running... I get it a lot, but it's only because I don't catch myself before I touch my eyes sometimes. Yes, it is contagious, but only 'really bad' when you touch your eye and touch someone else in the eye or something they will touch right after you. Just keep your fingers out of your eyes when that happens.

I just got over the stomach bug 2 days ago - my vote definitely goes to stomach bug, hands down!!!

Pink eye is my "favorite"disease - you can't go to work, but besides the itchy eye, you usually feel okay. Here in Colorado we call that the "powder day disease"

I picked the Stomach bug, but it RARELY lasts 24 hours. The Flu ALMOST ties because you have achy muscles and can be vomiting or have diarrhea. I take the Stomach Bug to be more like Food Poisoning though (not just a bug you picked up from a door handle). I've had food poisoning twice (meat both times, never again)... I had a very high fever, my body hurt, and I couldn't keep anything in (vomiting, diarrhea, and when I had nothing left in me, I was dry heaving). 3 days like this, took me a week to eat normal again. On a good note, I lost 4 pounds and kept it off. Still, I'd rather hold on to my 4 pounds any day.

I don't even think it's comparable to put "pink eye" up against something like the flu! Yes, you have to stay at home, but the flu leaves you incapacitated, often in agony for days. Flu is definitely the worst.

I've never had pink eye so I voted for it cause the other two allow you to rest and recover. I imagine with pink eye you would still feel like you have to go about your day.

tisgirl, I have the same fear. I remember once I was driving with the stomach flu (Stupid idea) and freaked out behind the wheel. Luckily, I was in bumper to bumper traffic and stopping was possible. But it was still traumatizing. So, that being said, stomach bug is the absolute worst for me. I rather have the flu/pink eye at the same time then have the 24-hour stomach bug.

Stomach bug for sure. Throwing up is literally my worst fear. Even a little nausea sets off a full-fledged panic attack - hyperventilation and all. It's awful. At least with the flu you can get a vaccine and lower your risk.

I'm going with pink eye, since I haven't had the flu in a couple of decades & don't recall how bad it feels. But I had an eye infection in college that was miserably painful. I could barely open my eyes for a couple of days before I managed to stumble to the doctor. And you get no sympathy.

Stomach bug is the worst. My entire family had it over Christmas. But the sick feeling lasted for days. It literally took 5 days before I could eat normally.

You should totally stay home with pink eye! It's pretty contagious. I used to get it every year I taught swim lessons. Those kids are germ factories! I think the stomach bug is the worst. Obviously all three suck, but not being able to eat or drink anything for fear of vomiting is just miserable. And missing sleep to puke is horrible. At least with the non-stomach flu I can just pump myself full of Nyquil to get a fighting chance at some sleep.

Pink eye is the worst because, I hate having my eyes itch etc! With the stomach bug and flu at least you have the benefit of losing a couple pounds, lol
