Speed. Power. Agility. Reaction. Quickness. These are the skills you need playing competitive team sports featuring balls and pucks. And Nike wants to help you make your best even better. The company created its SPARQ training systems to help athletes improve their skills. The SPARQ system begins with tests to determine your strengths and weaknesses, helping you learn where you need to improve. The tests are different for each of the sports: football, basketball, soccer, and hockey — the last three have separate test packages for each gender. You can download the PDF of the skills tested like 3/4 basketball court sprint or the multistage hurdle for basketball and watch short video demonstrations of each tested skill for even more clarity. Enter your results, register with SPARQ, learn where you fall on the athletic skills spectrum compared to other registered users, and then start doing drills to improve your weakness.
I got a taste of SPARQ training for basketball when shadowing the Nike Field Reporter for a day and learned that my agility skills could use some improvement. Watch a video to see some drills in action when you read more.
If you're looking for a sport-specific workout, check out the SPARQ program — it's good for college jocks and weekend warriors alike. It might help keep you off the sidelines and injury free, too. By the way, Nike is actively searching for the next field reporter, and it could be you! So apply already.
