What Do You Know About Pluots?

Pluots are one of the tastiest, sweetest, most juicy fruits I've ever tasted.

yeah, that's very organic... are people really that bored with normal fruit that they have to make up something new and name it dinosaur egg? pathetic. and as far as i'm concerned it's not even a real thing, none of the dictionaries had the word pluot in it.

They have a dozen types of these at the farmer's market by my work. Recently I tried a "grenade plout" that was green, a "black candy" plout that was black outside and peachy inside, and then one that was magenta and light pink speckled. The thing I like about them is they seem easier to buy than regular plums. I used to buy plums that would be either not ripe enough (hard, dry) or too ripe (squishy). Plouts are firm (sometimes a little bit of apple-like crunchiness)but are still crazy juicy and very sweet.

There is a really good fruit store by my apartment and I saw these and had to try them after reading this post...I bought two and ate both of 'em because they're so delish!

I see these at my supermarket on occasion - now I'll have to pick up a few.They might knock out nectarines as my favorite fruit if they're as sweet and juicy as you say.

Pluots were developed by Zaiger's Genetics, a company headquartered in Modesto, California. They claim to sell the trees to growers worldwide, including France, Spain, and Morocco. They're still something of a specialty item, more's the pity. I can't tell you how many times I've been at the farmer's market and people are saying "What kind of fruit is that?"; then the vendor gives them a sample and they end up buying a bunch.

Must congratulate myself :O got 2/3 right and like others here have NEVER EVER heard of this fruit but would sure like to taste it. I love the nickname (which I got wrong) dinosaur eggs :P
