So . . . Let's Talk About That Breaking Bad-Style Weight Watchers Commercial

"It's just a social thing; I can stop anytime," might be a phrase that you associate with drug or alcohol addiction, maybe even smoking — not food. This Super Bowl commercial from Weight Watchers is aiming to change your mind about that. Narrated by Aaron Paul — who you may know as the puppy-eyed meth dealer Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad — the ad, titled "All You Can Eat," does a frighteningly good job at aligning unhealthy foods with drugs. From a torch-flambéed creme brulée to a turkey that's injected with a large needle, the visuals of the commercial alone are enough to make you question whether your favorite foods should be legal . . . but Paul's narration is the (pardon me for this) icing on the cake.

Using all the same excuses that are famously associated with drug users ("No one's telling you what to do. . . . You can stop whenever you want."), the actor describes American food culture — massive portions, regular overeating, and a general lack of balance. By the time you read the words "It's time to take back control," you'll be stunned by the similarities between drug addiction and an unhealthy diet — it might even make you realize that your own eating habits are out of control. If this commercial scares the public as much as it's meant to, Weight Watchers will be getting plenty of post-Super Bowl calls from people seeking "help with the hard part."
