Valerie Bertinelli is certainly serious about weight loss. After losing 50 pounds using the Jenny Craig plan, she became a spokeswoman for the company, has written two books about weight loss, and even created her own fitness DVD. Now on the cover of Health magazine, Val talks openly about her daily struggles with food cravings and the secrets to maintaining her 128-pound figure. When asked what inspired her to lose weight, Valerie said that when she saw herself in the movie she made three years ago called Claire, she thought,
"Oh my goodness, who is that ugly, old, fat woman? . . . And that just made me feel terrible. And ashamed. And I was tired of feeling ashamed. I started to visualize myself, what I knew I could look like — and I didn’t want to look like that person on the screen. So I started to picture what I knew I could look like as a healthy, vibrant woman. A couple of months later, Jenny Craig called.

Valerie admitted that losing weight is easy, it's maintaining the weight loss that's difficult. Her secret is to be healthy most days. I completely agree when she said,
"We can take days to relax and we can have our splurge days, but if we want to treat our bodies well, we have to stay vigilant. It sucks [laughs]. But I’d rather be vigilant now than go through what I’ve been going through my entire life."
This slimmed down actress feels that avoiding foods you crave isn't the answer because it makes you want them so much that you gorge, which leads to gaining weight. I really respect Valerie because she has such a healthy outlook. When asked "What's better, looking good or feeling good?" the brunette replied, "Feeling good, without a doubt. When I feel good, I look better, because it shows from within."

sounds like she's got some balance, and that is what it's all about, good for her!
1I thought she weighed less than 128.. She is only 5'2. 128 is on the bigger side for being that tall.
2I disagree with the blanket statement about giving in to cravings. Yes, some people can do that and it works fine for them. Others really shouldn't give in to their cravings because it has the opposite affect and that's when they'll gorge and in the very least once they eat the splurge item they crave it more.
Every body is different, 128 lbs does not look exactly the same on everyone. bone, lean mass, and fat mass have to be taken into consideration, not to mention just the form of one's body. We all carry weight differently.
3Yeah, I am 140 lbs and 5'6'' and everyone is shocked. I carry the weight well. Some people look big at certain weights and some people look small. Plus, muscle weighs more then fat and takes up less room in your clothes so if she has a lot of muscle she will weigh more and be more compact.
4It's nice to have a role model for women that lost her weight in a healthy way and didn't end up looking like a skeleton. She looks great!
5She seems to be healthy and happy, finding a balance that many people need. Good for her
6I looked it up and she said on Larry King in '07 that she's 5' 4.5". I'm this height and weight this on my wedding day and was a size 6/8. Very healthy and not on the heavy side.
7I think her attitude is refreshing. She's very open and honest about maintaining a large weight loss...yes, sometimes it does suck, but when you compare it to what life was like as a fat person, it really doesn't suck that much.
I don't think she's lying about her weight...128 lbs on a 5'4" frame is not "heavy". I'm 5'3" and muscular and when I was 125, I was a size 6 and not really fat or "big".
8Good for her! So many people look at gaining a ton of weight as just being a normal part of getting older, but it's not. She is such a good role model!
9This is really motivational to me because she started out about the height/weight I am now, and now she says she's at a weight that I'd love to be at! Hopefully I can look and feel as good as her sometime soon.
