USA women's soccer is advancing to the finals for the gold. After a knock-down, drag-out fight today on the field that went into overtime. The team came out on top, beating Canada and earning their spot in Thursday's finals against Japan. Joining me now to talk more about it and a few of the other Olympic highlights from today we have Fit Sugar editor Lizzie Fuhr. Hey, Lizzie. Hey, Lauren. So let's talk about this game because it was intense to say the least. I mean, the teams were neck-and-neck entire time. It was a major come back today for the US verses Canada. It was a 4/3 overtime win. They were down or tied until the one hundred twenty third minute of play. Megan Rapinoe scored two goals, Abby Wambach made a penalty kick, and then the final score came in the final minute that they had left with 23 year old Alex Morgan really putting them over the edge. Yeah, I mean, I was watching and it was amazing to see the girls, you know? By the end they were obviously so tired, sweating like crazy but really putting their hearts into it. I mean, what does this win mean for them, for Team USA? It's a huge win for Team USA. It means that they'll advance to the finals and play Japan on Thursday. So back last summer, at the world cup finals, the US actually lost to Japan so from the get go of the London Games, Team USA has been saying that this was their motivation. You know, they really wanted a rematch and that's exactly what they're going to get. Right. So we'll get to watch that on Thursday. They're looking forward to it. I know we're looking forward to it of course as well. It's gonna be a great game. Yeah. Well, I mean, there was other stuff going on today as well, not just soccer. We also had gymnastics. We had track and field. anything that really stands out to you? Sure. So one of my favorite moments of today was from Jenn Suhr, who took a gold medal for pole vaulting. She took home a silver back in at the Beijing games. She's a wonderful competitor. But I think she was a little bit under the radar because the defending champion from Russia was competing. But had a phenomenal day and she took home the gold. She had a really emotional moment with her husband that we got to see and it was just one of those wonderful Olympic moments. Right. And more of those to come in the coming I'm sure. Yes, I'm sure. Yeah. Well, thanks for much, Lizzie, for filling us in. I appreciate it. Sure, Lauren. And we'll continue bringing you more Olympic highlights in the coming days, so keep checking back to Pop Sugar For now, I'm Lauren Bradshaw and thanks for watching Pop Sugar Rush.
