Perhaps you're inspired by Madonna's muscles or Gwyneth Paltrow's long and lean physique — the ladies are dedicated to exercise and attribute their levels of fitness to trainer Tracy Anderson. She first made her workouts accessible to the public through workout videos, and her newest venture in spreading her method is the opening of a Manhattan studio with business (and fitness) partner Gwyneth Paltrow.
While Tracy is attempting to popularize her signature method, she's not exactly taking the exclusivity away from the workouts she designed. With an initiation fee of $787.50 for six months or $1,500 for a year and monthly membership fees of $900 a month, the Tracy Anderson Method is hardly an affordable fitness solution for most. To see what members are paying for, read more.
Maybe you'd be willing to shell out mega-bucks for a celebrity trainer, but Tracy won't be the one leading classes at her TriBeCa studio. Instead, staff members will guide high-paying clientele through workouts on Anderson's proprietary New Band System and Hybrid Body Reformer. Even if I could afford to invest that much money in my fitness routine, I couldn't justify doing it. It seems excessive to pay $12,300 for one year of working out when there are so many less expensive ways to get fit.
Would you pay to work out at the studio if you could afford it?
Yoox
No, no, no, no! You said it yourself Fit, they are cheaper ways to get fit and i don't effin care she is a celebrity trainer.
1it's really expensive!
2Her DVD's are way more affordable 29.95 + shipping.
I'm doing the post pregnancy one (even though I haven't had a baby yet) It's great for the abs and butt.
hell noooooooooooo :-&
3Wow, I don't even know what to say. Maybe if I could afford it...but even then, it still seems ridiculous. :|
4Absolutely ridiculous.
5What a load of bull. I'd rather pay less than $20 for Jillian Michael's two new DVDs (combined price!)
6that's just insane. i can understand how she still wants to be considered an elite trainer, but that's just insane to think about how much it costs...especially in today's economic conditions. even folks that have disposable income would most likely just go to a higher end gym like equinox where you know that the trainers are great.
7wow... maybe if I had Madonna's money. To her it would be like 10 bucks.
8Are you serious? In New York? Where everyone is freaking out about the financial crisis? Who in their right mind is going to pay $900 a month for a gym membership that doesn't advocate lifting anything more than 3lbs? Dude, you can lift 3lbs in your freaking kitchen.
9no way. duffy - good point about the kitchen!
10Dear god NO. Even if I had enough money, I can't imagine that. I mean, and to me that sort of membership should include racquetball and tennis courts, you could really have a gym+ country club membership for that price if you had the cash to burn. And honestly, who does!?
11$900 a month wow
12You couldn't pay ME to work out with this woman. I find her methods to be ridiculous and I get better results when I lift heavier weights and don't do 6 million reps with 2 lb Barbie weights.
13i think the formula for getting fit will never change.. healthy diet plus workouts that are effective... so no need to splurge
14although im sure people will go crazy for her gym. i mean madonna and gwyneth? c'mon
While I would spend this much on yearly workouts (and yes I know this is a lot of money) I would never give a penny to this lady. Tracey Anderson is a fraud, do an internet search on her and you will see what she is like.
15lol the sad thing is there are lots of people who WILL pay that!
16I can't imagine spending that kind of money to work out! I suppose it would be a huge incentive to work out since you wouldn't want the money to go to waste if you were to spend it on a membership. But man alive, that's insane. I have trouble justifying a $199.00 initiation fee and $19.99/month fee at Best Fitness. I still work out at home with videos and weights. Works best for me.
17ridiculous!
18ridiculous!
19I wouldn't pay $100/mo. after reading about the history of her gym's suddenly closing down and people are out of the money they invested! I do like her method so I use the DVD's. Much cheaper, effective and financially much more responsible. I wouldn't even call her an elite trainer, really.
20Obviously this isn't for the average person she's going for a certain clientele. At my gym we charge over $1000, but it's well worth it when you see results!
If she's getting people the results they want then why not charge it, especially when there will be people that will pay it!
