We all know that the best way to a flat belly is by burning calories and fat through cardio, especially interval training. Bloating, on the other hand, is its own beast, and nothing kills a day at the beach than feeling super bloated.
Luckily, there are easy ways to reduce bloating so that you can show off that tummy you've been working so hard to get. Check out these easy ways reduce bloating for bikini season:
- Stay away from salt. Too much sodium is not only bad for your heart, it will cause you to retain water and feel bloated.
- Drink water. Being dehydrated is a sure way to cause you to retain water, so be sure you drink enough water to keep your body hydrated.
- Limit gassy foods. Some foods (such as lentils, artichokes, wheat bran, carbonated drinks, and more) create more gases in your body than others, so you may want to limit them if you're about to suit up.
There are three more, so read more.
- Eat fiber. Fiber helps everything move through the intestines more quickly, which prevents constipation and bloating. If you're not accustomed to eating enough fiber, then slowly add more and more fiber to your diet; go too fast, and you'll feel even more bloated than before. Also make sure to drink plenty of water with all the fiber.
- Eat more slowly. One small cause of bloating could be that you're swallowing too much air when you're scarfing down your meals; this is why some of us get the hiccups when eating too quickly. Slow down when you eat and really chew your food. Remember what mom said: close your mouth when you chew.
- Get tropical. Eating pineapple can ease bloating too. This tropical fruit is high in the enzyme bromelain, which helps break down protein and eases digestion, helping to banish the bloat. Skip dessert and nosh on some pineapple instead.
Remember, good posture will help you rock your bikini, too. Have a great tip to prevent bloating? Share it in the comments section below.

all of those tips are great. i'd like to add - eating fewer refined carbs/sugars, and for some of us, limiting dairy intake.
1Probiotics are a GREAT way to prevent bloating and regulate digestion!
2Oh also - diet soda and sugarless gum....bad for bloat!
3Sugar substitutes...bad for bloat!
4Fiber+lots of water=flatter tummy. I've found that if I eat at least 30 grams of fiber a day and drink a TON of water, everything kind of passes right through and you get a nice, flat belly.
5peppermint tea is said to ease tummy bloating. switch it out for a carbonated drink and it's great! i add a packet of sweetener and some sugar free torini chocolate flavored syrup. it's a treat!
6I 2nd the artificial sweetener comment--i'm on my 3rd day of giving up ALL artificial sweeteners and let me tell you, the difference is night and day. it's hard not putting splenda in my coffee and not grabbing the diet coke, but beyond not having bloat (seriously helps!) i feel SO much better. Try it for at least a few days and i promise you'll see a difference.
7Best thing to do I think is exercise! It keeps things moving...
82 table spoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water will get rid of excess water weight and bloating. Drink this about 2 times a day, slowly, and it will help.
9thx
10what works for me is avoiding soda and sugary food like the plague ... limit dairy intake.. drink herbal teas (to help with drinking more water).. and I do my best to avoid saturated fat. If something went wrong and I felt bloated, ACV helps a lot.
11Getting rid of artificial sweeteners not only only helps reduce the bloating, but it also reduces headaches!
12I'm so glad I do all of these things! My family thinks I'm weird for loving fiber, but clearly I have a good reason! =)
13are there any new tips since this was originally posted in 2009?
i TRY to avoid chewing gum which i love, but my fave foods (pulses, broccoli etc) are gassy. what about workouts - which cardio or stretches are good?
14For those of you who have mentioned artificial sweetener, I'm curious, did you just stop sweetening things (i.e. your coffee), or switch back to sugar? Because I can't imagine my morning without java, and I do not like it unsweetened...
15I agree with eating plenty of fiber. It keeps the digestion and elimination systems humming, and moves everything along.
Also, I think practicing good posture (at all waking activities such as walking, sitting, gardening, etc) helps, too. It engages and elongates the core. It makes for a tighter appearance, and conditions all the muscles. This is something I learned as a dancer.
16I 2nd the apple cider vinager.
17Gum + Sparkling Water = My Bloat Downfalls... but unfortunately I like them too much to care! ha ha.
18I'm swapping water for fizzy drinks and enjoying it.
19I've always been a fiber addict. I find fiber, water, and regular exercise to be no brainers if you want a healthy, non-bloated tummy!
20For some reason, overdoing starchy foods (which I am in love with!!) gives me bloating that lasts for up to 15 hours! I do not like having to watch this so I am considering taking an enzyme like sucrase. Has anyone tried this??
21Meridian021: I stopped having artificial sweetner by using raw sugar. I used smaller amounts until I became accustomed to the taste. I have my coffee with a small amount of milk so that helps but no sugar really let's u appreciate the yummy coffee taste. Also, my mom uses raw sugar in hers every am, as long as u moderate with other treats its definitely better for u than splenda.
22All of those are easy to do, except eating more slowly! So tough. I also find that any dietary change (eating something I wouldn't normally) causes bloating.
