i love making stir-fry with brown rice, tofu and veggies. such an easy, healthy dinner.
1I love brown rice! I eat it instead of white rice all the time. I do need to eat more barley though...it's really good, but I just don't think to make it very often.
2I'm okay with whole wheat, but I've just never gotten the appeal of brown rice. If anyone has some suggestions, they'd be much appreciated.
3I love brown basmati rice. I make a lot at once and freeze it, since it takes so long to cook and I don't always have the time to wait around for it.
4I got sick off of some hamburger dish once, and it was served with brown rice. So even now, I just can't bare to eat it. I wish I could though, as I realize its health effects.
I have learned that in comparison with regular long grain rice, basmati has a lower g.i. level, which means it releases energy into your bloodstream less quickly and for a longer period of time, giving you energy for longer. So I usually choose basmati.
5Whole wheat, check....
6i've started to add barley to my diet recently and i have to say that it's not as bad as i had originally feared. that's one thing that i'm always a bit skeptical about - texture and if there really is a benefit to my diet by adding something.
i've always been a fan of whole wheat so that was a no brainer and a few years back i switched to brown rice so i guess i'm doing ok there as well!
7You can add some warm brown rice (about 1/4 cup) to a cool, fresh salad complete with lean protein. It's a bit more filling than just greens alone.
