When it comes to working out, I keep an eclectic mix going. Spinning,
I like running and swimming by myself, but group classes like yoga, Pilates, and kickboxing are also some of my faves. Exercising in a group generally makes me work harder, especially when the energy of the class is high and the instructor is motivating. I also like knowing I will be done in an hour or an hour and half, it helps me plan for class and for afterwards. Plus, I like leaning new moves and getting feedback from the instructors about form. These are some of the reasons I like group classes. What about you? Tell me why you like group classes in the comments section below.

- They push you so much harder than you push yourself!
1- Music!!!
- Group Dynamic is very competitive and motivating
- the energy!
- new and innovative exercises
- the camaraderie - knowing someone will say "where were you tuesday" is usually enough of a push when I'm debating whether or not to go.
- learning new moves and knowing I have a good teacher to critique my form
- forces me to actually do an hour of something (usually on my own my strength sessions last about 40 minutes and my cardio lasts about 40-45)
2My Spinning class flies by because I don't watch the clock! Suddenly I've done intense cardio for almost an hour and I don't even realize it. I adore my instructor and I can easily measure my progress on how certain things get easier!
3I love group excercise becuae it's the next best thing to a personal trainer. If you need help with your form or you take a break, the instructor will show you how to fix it or encourage you to keep going, even if you need a break. They will often suggest a modified version of a move for those who aren't advanced.
4I hate squats and in my interval class, I know I will do them - lots of them. I enjoy doing things that I might not do otherwise as well as the class's encouragement.
5I love the spinning classes b/c it's all done for you! The music, the timing, the patterns, the instruction...you can focus on getting in the zone and burning calories and pushing yourself and get that extra encouragement from the instructor saying 'come one come on you know what brought you here' and '5,4,3,2,1' to know how much longer instead of having to think of all that in addition to focusing on the actual workout. Plus you get to kind of have a competition to those around you, trying to go harder or faster, and not giving up b/c hey, they are doing it and you can go just a bit more too! And in the class, you get the lights off and music blasting...not so much by yourself:)
6I only like spin class...I can't stand other classes because you can seriously injure yourself when you don't know how to do the moves correctly. Plus you have some seriously b*tchy women in there who think they know better and won't give you any space.
7i love group when the instructor keeps it fun...a room full of bored people aint fun..so it has to be a good routine combined with wicked music that motivates people to get into it
i used to go to a class where the instructor, devin had a routine that made you feel like you were in the club and it was hot! since i love to dance, i loved it!
8I like it for a lot of reasons listed but also, sometimes if I'm in a bad mood or too much in my head I like that class is NOT solitary exercise and thus doesn't allow me to be distracted by my thoughts or think too much. Of course, exercise releases endorphins to the bad mood improves. -Though in some cases a bad mood helps my workout because I work harder to get the aggression out.
9as much as i love my personal yoga practice, there's something simply mindblowing about the presence that comes from a group of people doing yoga. i enjoy classes because they help me push myself further and it's [usually] a caring environment.
10I like how much more motivated I am.
11I hold out longer and push myself harder in a social environment, even when I'm cursing on the inside. The other class members motivate me, especially when they're older and in better shape than I. When left to my own devices, I am as lazy as sh-ugar. Though I think sports are the absolute best for anyone with a competive spirit and/or a team mentality.
12*competitive. argh.
13Being in a class with other people motivate me to keep going when I feel like giving up. I think to myself "if they can do it, so can I!"
14my best exercise came from my years of ballet (in a group class) and i still go back to that setup when I want the best for me. it keeps me interested and i feel like less people are watching me than when it is me versus the gym. even when i have to take a step back to rest, the music and energy keeps me moving and my heart rate up.
15i need the peer pressure! when i work out alone, i tend to give up earlier, but in a class? the peer pressure is enough to keep me going to then end! "they're not stopping, so i better not!"
16group classes give me the motivation I need and a planned workout at least once a week. It's nice knowing on Monday's I don't have to think about a routine, just show up and before you know it it's over.
I like the different music, different moves and the group energy. It helps when you like the instructor!
I do kickbox cardio at least once a week and sometimes a strength training course, step or pilates.
17i love them because it's the only thing that makes me go throught the whole sickle of exercise without slacking off - i get tired quickly, because i have never been to a gym for longer than a month, so i'm never in shape. but in group class it's embarassing to be slacking off - i can take it, i can't be lazy. it's very very motivating for me, the most motivating thing... not even losing a few pounds motivates me that much, as trying not to be worst than the rest
18I like fitness classes because the instructor pushes me harder than I ever would on my own. It's also a no-brainer, you just go there and do what they say, rather than having to remember a routine, and it's equivalent to having a personal trainer without the extra cost. It also takes less time usually then working out on my own.
19While group classes can motivate you, sometimes it has a " meat market" quality which tends to be intimidating to me.
20I like group classes because:
- the instructor motivates you
21- they show you what to do, you don't really have to mentally engage
- I never let myself wimp out because I know that other people will see me wimp out!!
