So many celebs have had cosmetic surgery. Of course, they have the dough to pay for it, plus the pressure to look amazing 24-7.

What if you could have a nose job, liposuction, breast implants, or a face lift for pennies? Would you do it?

FitSugar/Smartblonde: I'm 23, wear a size 4, and my bra is a size 32EE. I despise my breasts almost everyday. I hate the comments I receive, I very rarely wear anything too low-cut for that reason. I have tried to get my insurance to cover a reduction with no luck and I can't afford one on my own. And nobody really understands it either, it IS a self-esteem thing for me which not many people really understand.

Ha! You "young Chickies" sound like me back in the day. :) I would never have imagined "going under the knife" for anything except life threatening situations. Heck, I even did natural childbirth... That was then. :ROTFL: After 6 pregnancies, 4 children, lost boobs, saggy chin, and potbelly... in spite of being just 125 lbs. and 5'5". I changed my tune. I had the chin and boobs fixed for my 40th Birthday and the tummy tucked for my 50th (my MD said that I could have exercised 24/7 and gotten nowhere with the tummy because my abdominals had separated.) Then I had my makeup permanently applied... How do I feel about it all now? Great!! :ANEGYPTIAN: I don't feel shallow and a slave to the artificial beauty mandates of today's society. I feel liberated! I can wear any bikini, skirt, pants, dress, or top and not have to look at myself sideways to see what's hanging out and what isn't. I do not waste even one minute of any day fixing, hiding, primping or being self conscioius. I'm off running my business, volunteering and taking classes. No, I'm not addicted to plastic surgery. I'm feeling like I'm done, except if maybe my eyelids drooped so far over my eyeballs that I could not see where I was going. Now my motto is "If the barn needs painting - paint it!" and I'd say that this 'ol barn is pretty much aluminum sided...

I know I have flaws all over my body, but I don't care. Whatever I can't change by exercise, diet and healthy living I will keep. My mother has had lipo, gastric bypass, tummy tuck, implants, and is getting ready for a facelift and she's not even 45 looking like a deformed Barbie. I had surgery on my eardrums when I was five to prevent complete deafness, but plastic surgery in most cases is not something I would do. Maybe if I was burned beyond recognition, but other than that no.

I probably would have gotten a nose job already. I go through phases where I think about it a lot, and then I don't. I even went as far as getting names of plastic surgeons reccommended by other doctors of mine. But I think when I think about it most is when my self esteem is low anyway, and I just kind of blame my nose for it. Right now it's not bothering me as much though. I'd also get lipo on my hip/lovehandle area, because they are such a problem area for me and no matter how much weight I lose or how much I try to tone them NOTHING works!

But FitSugar, I've yet to meet anyone who had a breast reduction solely for cosmetic or even self-esteem reasons. I had one at age 20 and need another one at 30 (they were NOT supposed to grow back, and no, I don't have kids), and it was a decision I made mostly for medical reasons. Many reduction patients have the same story I do. I had serious muscle development issues in my back and chest, I had back problems, and I couldn't even breathe properly to sing. I was 5'3", 120 pounds, and a 34DDD, possibly even an E. Many insurance companies cover reductions if a surgeon knows he or she will be removing a certain amount of tissue. After my surgery, I was a 34C for a long time, and then at 25 I woke up one morning at 34D. At 30 I'm a 34DD and am considering another reduction because even though I'm stronger now, I still have back problems, back down to a C, but money is an issue.

I agree - the health risks aren't worth it - even if it were cheap! But if people are truly unhappy with their self image, and diet and exercise can't help, then cosmetic surgery might be the answer. I had a friend with really big breasts for her frame and she hated the way guys looked at her and called her inappropriate names. She hated her boobs EVERY day, and it was so bad for her self-image. Since she gt a breast-reduction, I've never seen her so happy!

I don't think I have any problems with my body that warrant plastic surgery- a dermatologist and a trainer would serve me better than a surgeon would... It's crazy to put yourself at risk unless it's for reconstructive purposes. Maybe when I'm really old, I'll think differently.

Nope. I'm happy with my scrawny but ogre-esque look! haha. If I ever got consmetic surgery done for vanity purposes, I wouldn't be able to recognize myself as "me" whenever I look into the mirror.

I would consider a tummy tuck. I've had four kids, and I'm still in my 20's, and I'm sad that I can't wear a bikini anymore. I'm in great shape, but I have stretch marks and my stomach is just really soft now. Basically, I don't think it's nearly as bad to try to fix something that's gotten messed up, but I wouldn't go trying to change anything. I def. wouldn't have facial surgery unless I was injured or something.

No, I would never alter my face or body to fit the societal view of beauty. I believe it's wrong and insanely shallow to do so unless you are having corrective surgery for a disfigurement of some kind. It amazes me how mainstream this has become. It is sad, really.

Seems like there are lots of non-surgical projects to tackle first. Fix the diet, work out more, take better care of your skin, stop smoking, get more sleep. Thank god I don't have to look like a movie star, 24/7, for the rest of my life. Too much pressure!

yes. no doubt. i'd get my neck lipo-ed. i'm sick of double chins! and after i have kids, i'd totally get a boob job, maybe a tummy tuck if i needed it. i don't worry about the health problems, since cosmetic surgery is such a common thing now. p.s. i think it's so great that ashlee simpson got her nose done to look just like mine. at least i know i'll never have to get mine done!

Magica, your situation is different...don't be ashamed, it's not like you had a choice! And every time someone looks down on people who've gotten plastic surgery, you can use your story to make them feel guilty. :D I think those pictures of Ashlee Simpson don't represent how weird her new look is AT ALL. Well, she did look weird when she first got the surgery. The person who found those pictures was obviously a fan. I think most of us are too young to be thinking about plastic surgery too much. If I get old and nasty, I might do it. :P
