Losing weight and living the healthy life is not always easy. In fact it can be downright difficult. A wide variety of inspirational sources is often helpful. Music is definitely a motivational tool for workouts, but Heidi Roizen has created motivational weight-loss songs for listening to anytime a dieter needs an extra boost. Her CD, titled Skinny Songs ($10 on iTunes), contains 10 songs with titles like "Skinny Jeans," "Thin!," and "The Incredible Shrinking Woman." She created "chick empowerment" songs to help her keep on track and to help her avoid temptations while dieting. You can listen to snippets of the songs on the Skinny Songs website.
Here is a tasting of some of the lyrics:
From "Skinny Jeans," which has a new country feel to it:
"skinny jeans, skinny jeans, you’re still hanging ‘round
In the back of my closet and that’s bringin’ me down
this morning, I woke up, and made me a vow
skinny jeans, gonna get back, into you somehow"
and from "I'm a Hottie Now" kind of bluesy:
"I’m a hottie now! (gimme something sexy)
I’m a hottie now! (something that barely fits me)
worked on my body, and I’m a hottie now!"
I think it is great that music with a weight-loss message has helped a lot dieters out there, but I for one don't think I would like to listen to a song about skinny jeans on a regular basis. But a musical earworm reminding you not to eat pie could come in handy. The songs do seem to emphasize the glamour of being thin rather than the health benefits that accompany weight loss, but who wants to rock out to song about LDL cholesterol? What do you think . . .

its cool when ur skinny
1I'm not going to lie, this is one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time!
2lame.
3LOL @ Lulla!
I can see where this would help, but I totally wouldn't use it. I've got over 100 lbs to lose [I'm still in the planning stages of making a comprehensive plan, because it's going to take a LOT of resources], so this might interest me. Eating right isn't really the issue for me; I don't eat fast food but once a month now, and I've got a pretty balanced and healthy diet. I have a problem with portion sizing [if she's got any songs about THAT, I'd buy them!].
Every time I've made a serious attempt to lose weight [and I've made TONS], I tend to get kind of angry when I hear things that are faux-inspirational like "work into those skinny jeans!" "you can be THIN too!" It reminds me of a bad exercise video. I guess I just would rather listen to inspirational feel-good-about-myself music, not music that's a gimmick to lose weight. I have a short workout playlist on my iPod full of power songs [like "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera] and cool-down songs that I like and would go to the gym [if I had a membership!] JUST so I could listen to them as loud as my speakers will allow.
Maybe it's just me, but I think "hey, I'm an awesome person already, look at what my body can do now - OF COURSE I can do this!" is a lot nicer and more motivating than "I've got to get back into those skinny jeans, NO PIE, I wanna be THIN, dammit!"
These songs just make the process seem so *stressful*.
4I almost threw up when I read the phrase "chick empowerment."
5it's corny, I'd be better working out with Coldplay or anyone else I like.
6I would think work out songs would be a better seller. 30 minutes of fast beat songs to get your work out in.
7SIGH
8sounds all very tacky to me, just stick to upbeat songs.
9Um, they sound like bad songs, so I'm going to go with uncool, not because of the message though. I don't really have much of an opinion on that.
10Yeah, I don't exactly object to the CONCEPT but the lyrics sound pretty darn stupid if you ask me.
11as a recovering anorexic, not entirely sure 'skinny' is the healthiest motivation.
12Yea because skinny totes equals healthy!
13i dont think the message is wrong, but the songs sound kinda dumb
14how stupid.
15Hah. Lame.
16soo weird / not my kind of motivational music
17I've been "skinny" and just let me say how extremely OVERRATED that word is. How about healthy? Athletic? Strong? Powerful?
18I definitely can't do the eliptical with out my i-pod, but this cd is just plain silly.
19didn't intrigue me at all
20This is the dumbest thing ever. I seriously laughed out loud.
Workout songs are great, but these songs sound REALLY lame and the whole "you've gotta fit into your skinny jeans! Thin is power!" or whatever, is what encourages anorexia. Trust me, I'd know. I find all of this skinny hype really annoying. Being skinny will not make you happy or fulfilled, and it isn't what it's made out to be. Being healthy, however, is a key factor in having a balanced lifestyle. If only the media would focus more on THAT more. That's why I really love this site.
21As if there weren't enough messages out there telling women that they need to be skinny...
22Downright laughable!
23Stupid. Because we all know that the only good quality a woman can have is that she can fit her a$$ into a size 2. Right. I'd much rather rock out to a song about a woman taking control of her life in other ways...getting out of an abusive relationship, accomplishing something really great, being a great mom, etc. I could care less if she fits into her skinny jeans. Gimme a break!
24Its all about Crazy on You by Heart
25This is definitely going to be a hit with the pro-ana crowd!
No thanks, I'll keep my Britney Spears playlist!
