The Skinny on: Colonics and the Red Carpet

There are many celebrity secrets to looking gorgeous on the red carpet and one of those dirty little secrets is colonics. Yes they are as unglamorous as they sound. Contrary to popular belief, colonics do not help you lose weight, since the large intestines/lower intestines/colon does not metabolize food, just water. However, a colonic does wash away anything that is hanging out in your lower intestines. For the red carpet walk, a colonic can decrease bloating and thereby flatten a belly. Some even claim that colonics can plump up the skin too. Increasing the amount of water you drink, even doubling the recommended 8 servings of 8 ounces of water a day, for 5 days before a big event can produce the same desired effect and that just sounds a lot more appealing to me. You all know how much I love water.

TMI! TMI! TMI!...and yet, good to know.
I drink so much water, it's crazy, but I still always feel bloated. I think I just need to cut as much sodium as possible from my diet.

i heard dr. drew on loveline talk about colonics once. he said that they don't do anything except dehydrate you. you might as well drink laxatives, because you're only losing water weight, and that's bad for you. and no, nothing hangs out in your intestines that NEEDS to be cleaned out using a colonic. if anything's stuck in your intestines or building up over time, you'd be really sick. the body is good at cleaning itself out. i'd say, and this is just me and some advice i heard from a nutritionist, eat your fiber. fiber is the "scrubber" of the intestines, as i've heard. no, i'm not a doctor. but dr. drew is!

My boyfriend got one of these done after he finished with chemo to help clean out his system... some of the drugs that he was on caused all kinds of problems.... while he will NEVER do it again, he said it was amazing how much better he felt afterward.... funny story.... we had JUST started dating when he had that done, and I was talking to him on the phone when his roommate walked in the room. My bf thought he had put me on hold and proceeded to give VERY graphic details of the process... he was MORTIFIED when he heard me start laughing!!!!!

I know people that have done them. I just make sure I drink a ton of water. I always follow-up a diet soda with my big bottle (32 ounce) of water.
