I don't have to read about the shortage of swine flu vaccine, I'm living it. Everywhere I go to get vaccinated it's the same — there are not enough shots to go around. Supplies are extremely limited, and a recent poll conducted by Harvard University School of Public Health says that 70 percent of adults and 66 percent of children who tried to get vaccinated couldn’t.
On Friday the National Center For Immunization and Respiratory Diseases said that the high demand is outweighing the supply, but that more doses would be available in the coming weeks. I've heard this every week and no matter where I go, I leave without getting a shot. I'm starting to get frustrated but I want to protect myself.
Have any of you had better luck than I have?

I've already had the swine flu. There's no need.
it took forever, but i did fall into the high-risk category: pregnant and i work with young children.
I haven't even tried, since I'm not in any of the high risk categories and they're very open here about the shortage. If I had kids, I would be more worried about it.
I am newly pregnant and finally had the opportunity to get the shot last week but passed on the vaccine. In my county 16,000 shots were made available with 140 going to the womens' clinic I am a patient of.
I haven't tried to get one yet, but I think I'm supposed to be getting it because I work in healthcare in a hospital and they want to minimize the chance that the inpatients will get sick.
I can't even get a regular flu shot. Normally I wouldn't give a crap, but I'm getting married in less than two months and the last thing I need is the flu.
Congrats Lissy on the upcoming wedding!
I'm not getting it. My family doctor advised me not to get it because I wasn't in the high risk group and with so few available, only people in that category should be getting the shot.
Congrats Lissy and LOL! I was married less than two years ago and my husband and I made sure to get the flu shot since we were getting married abroad and in the middle of flu season (January). If we weren't getting married we would have passed on getting it.
I already had H1N1 before the vaccine was released. So it's pointless for me to get it. But I wouldn't of gotten it anyways. I figure there are people out there who need it more than me and they should get it first.
Already had the flu, and though they've pretty much stopped testing people, the doctor said it was most likely H1N1. Still, there's a chance it was just the seasonal flu, so getting the vaccine is something I'm definitely weighing. I don't want to have to go through that again!
When the supply meets demand I will get the swine flu shot, I am in a higher risk group. I did get the seasonal vaccination a couple of weeks ago and even that took hunting down.
not even going to try. i'm not in a high risk category and thankfully don't deal with children any time during my days. i'd rather the vaccine/shot go to people that need it.
This is why your government should follow the Canadian medical system. We have ample supply-for free-for all citizens. The most high risk group is allowed to come and get vaccines. Babies-4 years old + pregnant women, then over 65 with health conditions, then 5 - 25 yrs old, then everyone else. No lineups.
all my friends got ones within 2 days from our university. i'm still deciding if i'm going to get it, while im still recovering from being sick.
I'm not considered high risk, so I wouldn't be able to get one anyway. My husband works in a hospital, and it was a bit disappointing how long it took him to get one, but they eventually did get a shipment and administered it to the hospital workers about a week ago.
yogaforlife - your icon pic is adorable! Are those yours?
My two pups! The older one, Benny (the big black dog) was laying and I went to take a picture and as I was trying to get it, my puppy, Maia, decided she was going to squeeze her head next to him. She's so cute - always has to be apart of everything no matter how uncomfortable for her!
I'm from Canada, and also a teacher, but still can't get one! Anonymous - there are four hour line ups at the clinics in Toronto to try to get one, so the Canadian medical system hasn't exactly served its people either.
I am in the high-risk group with a chronic lung condition and I can't even find the regular flu shot! It's ridiculous.
no and i won't even try
America should take Australia's doses. We're just throwing them out because no one here wants to get vaccinated. Then again, Swine flu isn't as prevalent here.
I'm not getting the jab until the serum from Vaxine (a small South Australian) company gets released, it's safer (no mercury and it's not made in eggs) and had a longer trial period.
I was booked in to get one but I was feeling sick on the day so couldn't get it 'cause my immune system would've been compromised.
too much mercury in the the thermisol within the shot. no thank you!
I got mine because my university was having a free clinic, since I'm a university student and my brother has a compromised immune system (muscular dystrophy). I had to get the nasal spray because they were out of shots. But at least I got one, and the timing was right
I don't get vaccinations. Never had them as a baby and I'm healthy as a horse. I was in Mexico when the outbreak occurred and I was totally fine- I didn't wear one of those useless masks either.
I never get the regular flu shot, and I never get the flu.
