Scarlett Johansson has been posing on red carpets everywhere lately promoting He's Just Not That Into You, and the star's hourglass figure is as gorgeous as ever. While her focus is discussing the new movie, an interviewer from In Touch magazine couldn't help but ask Scarlett about her body image and mentioned how "refreshing" it is that she doesn't "subscribe to the scary-skinny craze in Hollywood."
Scarlett responded, "That's the biggest nonsense ever! Count me out. I don't understand what's supposed to be sexy there. And besides, I like to eat too much." I was surprised when the star went on to say that she's never been on a diet — as a woman in the US, and especially one in the spotlight, it's certainly a rarity to hear someone say they've never strategically dieted.
While I think it's awesome that Scarlett has maintained such a healthy relationship with food, I do hope that her comment about working out doesn't mean she shuns exercise completely. She said, "I've seen gyms only from the outside. I feel very comfortable with my body." Her attitude toward body image sets a great example for girls (and women, for that matter), but exercise is a huge part of being healthy from the inside out. I'd like to think she just prefers to work it at home or is into other forms of exercise outside the gym.

She's always had a beautiful body that clearly men love, which is why i don't understand why other people can't embrace theirs. I, too , and quite curvy, but not nearly as 'healthy curvy' looking as she is... but i also have never dieted and i do minimal exercise because i don't want to get caught up in it like many people i know that are addicted to diet and exercise (in an unhealthy way), which is just gross to me... its suppose to be about health and fun not hating yourself and working yourself to death!
1*am not and.... sugar needs an edit feature...
2I am surprised to hear say she has never dieted since she was so thin in The Island. I suppose she could have worked out a lot instead.
3And I agree with Sugar that hopefully she works out at home because promoting a lack of exercise is not healthy.
I think this is BS. I don't know any woman my age who has NEVER been inside a gym. I mean, come on. She's never even TRIED it?
Also didn't she design a line with Reebok a few years back? Or at least was their spokeswoman? A strange gig for a woman who has literally never entered a gym....
4She used to eat low-carb? That's a diet.
I think it is great that she's happy with her size and doesn't buy into the thinnest-you-can-get Hollywood trend.
I don't think the comment of "I've only seen gyms from the outside" was literal.
I don't think it is going to help women saying that you aren't into exercise. She obviously exercises. Comments like this is why people allow themselves to get grossly overweight and uses their genetics as an excuse b/c Scarlett is thin "naturally".
5I don't believe any celeb that says they don't work out or diet. It's their career to look good and I know many have "blessed genes" but realistically I don't think you can eat whatever and not have to work out. My sister is the type that can kind of get away with it because she is really petite and small but curvy women? doubt it.
6Yeah, I was saying the same thing at age 24.
If she's even telling the truth about not dieting or exercising, it's *definitely* gonna catch up with her in serveral years. Especially if she's naturally curvy. She'll either have to change her tune or her career.
7I think it is great that she has a healthy relationship with food. I, too, have never dieted. I eat fairly healthy, but I have never been on a structured diet. It's not that hard for me to believe that she hasn't done the same.
8Sorry but I don't believe her...
9Scarlett did design and promote a line for Reebok 2 years ago (Scarlett Hearts Reebok) but it didn't do well, probably because of the weak association between Scarlett and fitness. I have read that she does pilates and yoga which don't have to involve gyms. And she does have an exaggerative type of personality so she might be just a little dramatic here.
101. I don't believe her.
112. Wow, not exercising is setting a bad example. No matter what your body type is; thin, curvy, heavy, exercising is good for the long term effects.
God, this girl annoys me. She wants us to believe that she's THAT blessed? I don't even find her attractive (she looks like Jodi Sweetin here in the face)!
Obviously there's one thing her and her hunky husband do not have in common. Let's see if it catches up with them. He's obviously seen the inside of a gym many times over.
12She's lucky she has large boobs which balance out the fuller figure.
13i really, really do not believe her in the slightest.
14Whatever she's doing/not doing, she's still thin as hell.
Maybe she's doing those crazy colonic cleanses or other things that aren't "exercise"?
15Wow, you are all pretty harsh on her. I am fortunate to be built extremely similarly to Scarlett. While I have been to a gym, I do not diet. Also I remember awhile back Scarlett saying that she loves hiking. There are ways to exercise without a gym, for sure. While unlikely for a hollywood actress, it is possible that she truly doesn't diet. As for her being thin in the Island- she was 19 while filming that movie. She may need to change how she cares for her body as she ages, but she's only 24 now. Give her a break.
16Yeah, right. She probably eats healthy and does pilates and yoga. But it's cute to say that she doesn't "diet" and she never goes to the "gym." Maybe she wants us to imagine that she eats cheeseburgers and lays on the couch all day. Ahhhh to be a celebrity.
17Her body looks good to me, but she should at least work out for her health if not for aesthetics.
18She looks great, and that's that! I really don't care what she does or does not do.
19The reason I brought of The Island is that she was heavier before and after that movie.
20I'm almost 30 and have never been in a gym or on a diet or bought anything "lowfat." Also have a bmi of 17. If you eat well most of the time and move around in day to day life, it's enough for a lot of people til the metabolism slows with middle age.
21Scarlett has been to my yoga studio before. I think she just meant that she doesn't go to gyms. A lot of people don't go to gyms and they are still healthy.
22I know I don't like it when people see me eating fruits and vegetables and say "are you on a diet?" No. I like fruits and vegetables. Why is that a signifier of a diet? Now people just comment about how healthy I eat, but realize that that's just how I eat and not a "diet." I don't think Scarlett is the prettiest actress around right now, but I would believe her saying she doesn't diet if she just eats healthily as a general rule. Not everyone likes to eat cheeseburgers and copious amounts of pasta and chicken wings and whatnot.
23Saying she's never been to a gym implies that she doesn't exercise because it's something that only "scary skinny Hollywood" types do. So does she exercise or doesn't she? Because a girl with a good body who never exercises isn't "refreshing" to me.
24She has talked about not exercising before. I just think it's annoying how she says it, like exercising is just for miserable people who are obsessed with their looks. Newsflash: you can be very comfortable with your body, and exercise as well! It's about being active and healthy, not vain.
25Oh scajo, I think she's lovely! Perhaps she's getting a little bit tired of repeating herself on this topic.. here's a link from two years ago if anyone wants her to read her say, yet again, more about the subject. She says that she tries, "to stay fit and eat healthily"--> http://www.usmagazine.com/node/2053
26There are plenty of celebrities that aren't scary skinny that DO exercise and I think they're a much better example than Scarlett who is "naturally" thin and never works out at all. Thin does NOT equal healthy. Maybe she doesn't diet, but I bet she probably doesn't overeat, which is how a lot of Europeans stay relatively thin. But, I'm betting that since she never works out, her muscles are going to turn to mush and her metabolism will slow down to a grinding halt.
27She must have one heck of a metabolism if she loves to eat and doesn't exercise.
28Sure it's refreshing. But not very realistic for the rest of us schmoes. I subscribed to the no diet no exercise way of life a few years back and was like 250+ lbs. No thanks Scarlett. Since joining a gym and taking up running I have shed the excess weight and coundn't feel better or heathier. Now I enjoy exercise cause I feel strong afterwards and have more energy and can really keep up with my kids now. Maybe Scarlett will feel differently when she hits past her 30s.
29No diet and exercise...ummm-hmmmm, sure Scarlett, whatever.
She can exercise without going to the gym and I love how she is not promoting the typical Hollywood beauty, I think she is fantastic and beautiful!!
30'I think America has become obsessed with dieting rather than focusing on eating well, exercising and living a healthy life'
31a quote from the beautiful and sane scarlett.
not dieting and not living in the gym doesn't mean stuffing yourself with burgers and lying on the couch! there is a healthy mid-way
I agree with you, loveyoumeanit and with those who are saying that she probably does yoga and pilates. Even if she doesn't diet, her weight has gone up and done. I don't remember what it was but someone pointed out that sometimes shes a little thinner and other times she has put on more weight...I thought she talked about making The Island in her recent Allure mag, she was constantly running for a lot of her action sequences and they did make her workout for that film...so it figures that she put on weight when it was done.
I would be good if she exercised a little more, I have a feeling that she doesn't do work as hard with yoga and pilates as she should and yea, eventually it will all catch up to her when her metabolism drops and not too mention exercise is DEFINITELY good for your "inside" as well.
Oh, and I agree with you redsilkshoes...Ryan is very fit and it's funny that his partner has such a different idea (not that it matters to him).
All the same I'm okay with ScarJo she can do what she wants but I think it doesn't hurt to try some strength training.
32scarlett is totally hot and totally a liar. now, kelly clarkson on the other hand is the real deal. a real woman worthy of our praise. http://www.fitsugar.com/2824320
33She is pretty young...I mean, come on - if she eats pretty healthy and stays active (minus putting in hours at the gym) I can see this being totally true. I think she is just trying to stay away from the Lindsay Lohans and Nichole Richies who crash diet and have been stick thin in the past. Go Scarlett!
34Scarlett in reality, is still thinner than the average woman. She doesn't look anorexic. What an achievement. She is not carrying a little bit extra at all. She has boobs. I also am tired of hearing people fawn over 'curves'. What they are talking about are curves in the right places, an hourglass figure. This has never gone out of fashion and never will. Will a woman with round hips and a booty but small boobs be celebrated in this manner? Or just an average woman a few kgs overweight? I am 5'6 and my chest is pretty big. ..and i'm 128 pounds with narrow hips. So unfortunately for me no one congratulates me on my 'curves' as I'm out of proportion. i think what is valued is a woman's waist to hip ratio. I'm not hating on ScarJo, I like her and think she is beautiful, however it is insulting to the average woman to keep saying how she never diets or exercises and she's comfortable with her curves. She is tiny!
