Juice to You is a San Francisco-based juice bar that delivers around the Bay Area. The company offers four levels of cleanses — beginner, intermediate, advanced, and pro — at one, three, or five days each. The beginner three-day cleanse ($190) includes six types of juices that range from 150 calories to 300 calories each, plus two "elixirs" (aloe juice and algae shots), for a total daily intake of 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day.
Who: Nancy Einhart, executive editor. Nancy reviewed the Juice to You three-day beginner cleanse here; see below for some excerpts from her full review as well as more of her thoughts on the cleanse!
Did you ever feel hungry on it?
The biggest surprise: I wasn't starving. I worried I'd have to supplement with snacks, but the juices kept me from being hungry.
Were you able to maintain your fitness routine?
No. I did some yoga but not my usual runs or cardio classes.
How did you feel afterward?
Day one, I woke up with a headache from the lack of caffeine, and I was a bit lethargic. But by 2 p.m. I felt happy and energized. Day two was the easiest; I took a yoga class and felt like I could live on juice alone. By day three, the same six juices were getting a little old, but I felt awake and rejuvenated.
Overall, what were the good points?
The cleanse made me more aware of how much my day revolves around food, and, as an added bonus, I had a happy belly and flatter abs than ever before.
That the elimination diet part fell on a weekend! It was hard to have willpower.
Would you do it again?
I actually did do it again. But I did the precleanse diet during the week and the cleanse over a rainy weekend. It was nice, though I definitely get bored after three days.
