I first said "yeah" to Yakult because I love saying the word "Yakult." I also love probiotics to promote healthy digestion. Plus, this probiotic drink comes in cute little bottles about the size of a shot glass, so it seemed like a fun way to drink healthy.
Yakult isn't a yogurt; it's a "fermented dairy drink" first produced in Japan and contains live, probiotic cultures to help boost your immune system and the good bacteria in your tummy. Sold in packs of five, the 2.7-fluid-ounce bottles can be downed as drinks, but I also enjoyed it poured over cereal in place of milk. So how does it taste?
I was surprised by how sweet Yakult tastes; it has a tart, almost fruity flavor that, believe it or not, reminds me of Sweet Tarts. Thankfully, I poured it over a cereal that wasn't sweet; otherwise it might have been a bit much. I expected it to be thicker, but it's barely as thick as milk.
Nutritionally, Yakult's results are mixed. Each tiny bottle — enough to cover your cereal — contains 50 calories, 11 grams of sugar, and zero fat with just one gram of protein. So while it's packed with probiotics, it doesn't offer much in the way of protein or calcium. Unfortunately, the ingredients aren't all natural either: water, sugar, skim milk powder, glucose, artificial flavors, and lactobacillus casei shirota (the cultures). For that reason, I probably won't make Yakult a habit, but it was a nice change from yogurt or milk. Find out where it's carried near you. Do you Yakult?

Way too artificial and too much sugar. Fermented foods - sauerkraut, greek yogurt, tempeh, kombucha, et al. or a supplement is a better way to go. I'll pass.
1this stuff is awesome, I grew up drinking loads of this it's been very popular in Asia for decades. don't knock it till you try it.. actually I like that it was a secret for a while... if it gains much popularity, the prices will go up!
2i like the taste, but have only had it once. I very anti excessive packaging, so all those tiny plastics bottles are a bit painful to me
3can someone definitively tell me what a probiotic is?
4I am sticking with kefir for my fermentation fix! It has more protein.
5I used to drink this as a kid as well!! we used to freeze it into a slushy during the summer. I think i'll pick some up later
6I drink it everyday. It helps with digestion. I buy huge packages of these at a Korean store and keep it in the freezer then take out when I want to drink it.
7I have a pack in my freezer that I haven't touched for almost a year.
8mamasitama-probiotics are strains of bacteria that live in your intestines that help your body break down fiber and make vitamin K and other nutrients. Lactobacillus species and Bifida regularis are the most common ones that are added to foods. I actually don't usually buy into them because if you eat enough fruits and vegetables, these bacteria will grow on their own in your guts and will prevent the harmful bacteria from setting up colonies.
This Yakult stuff sounds kind of nasty to me. I don't like sweet milk, especially on cereal. At first I thought maybe it would be like kefir, but it sounds like it's probably not. Plus, there is hardly any protein in it, so I'll have to pass on this stuff.
9i can't imagine this in cereal, but i love this stuff. i usually get some random asian brand, but since the popularity has been growing, i haven't seen them on sale (2 for $1) at 99 ranch anymore
10I love Yakult! it tastes delicious....I could drink it every day, but here in Germany it is pretty expensive.. I could not imagine eating it with cereal though.
11I tried this once and didn't really like it. You're right that it tastes like sweet tartes but it was weird to DRINK a sweet tarte. Plus, way to artificial for me.
12thank you Spectra!!!!
13live cultures need sugar to feed on. maybe it doesn't need that much, but the amount of probiotics might have something to do with it?
14Since I found out that I am lactose intolerant, I can't consume dairy anymore. But I really like the idea of a beverage with probiotics. So Delicious just came out with a new coconut milk kefir, that is really tasty. I tried the original flavor, and it was just like drinking a really good yogurt and it only had 3 gm of sugar per serving.
15I love Yakult. It is very popular in Brazil. It is not popular in USA?!?
16Dude, I used to OD on that growing up (I have to drink that every day because I LOVE the taste).
17Mmmm...my most fave drink ever...bring back the good time of being a kid, ok..I kept drinking those well after I was in high school.
I only find it here in US when I go to Asian stores. In my city, anyway.
I used to drink this as a child all of the time... it was considered as a treat back in the day... its funny how poplar it is now.
18Och, I LOVE this stuff... I only ever have it in HK as it's cheaper there (way too expensive in the UK for daily consumption, methinks), so it's a rare treat.
19yummm!
20I love this stuff! There's a factory that we went to visit as a school trip once and I drank everyone else's free sample as well as mine. I can drink these all the time if too much isn't bad for me! (too much probiotics?)
21I drink it since.. forever!
my grandma used to give me money to buy a yakult each day I was with her.
My mother takes a yakult before a big pill or something like that, Her doctor told her that.
and I really really love yakult, but I never dream of putting it on a cereal, I just drank it like it is.
22I hate asain stores they look at us real americans like we're the aliens and they all stink
23Fitsugar, Yogurt is fermented milk. You can make Yakult at home if you want to - just like yogurt. I do. After all, Yakult is so expensive.
