While attending the International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association convention last week, I was roped into a 20-minute spin class on a RealRyder bike. Even though I was in my jeans, I knew this was a piece of equipment I wanted to check out. It is a spin bike that moves side to side, which mimics banking a turn on a road bike. Inappropriate attire aside, the class was great. Learning how to make the bike lean (a combination of leaning and turning the handlebars) was a bit challenging at first, but I got the hang of it. I could feel my abs and arms working a lot more than they would have on a regular spin bike. The true challenge comes when you stand up and pedal while trying to keep the bike relatively centered. The side-to-side sway of the bike felt almost like riding on the road.

The RealRyer should help you burn more calories per workout: The more muscles activated means the more calories burned. If you have a chance to try one, I highly recommend it. More and more gyms, from British Columbia to Tennessee, are adding these new bikes to their cardio arsenal. Check the RealRyder website, find "Facilities" in the drop-down list under the "Partners" tab, to find out if a gym near you offers RealRyder spin classes. If you are interested in installing one of these bikes in your home gym, be prepared to drop about $2,000.

that is too cool! i wish my gym would pony up for these. as it is we have very old rickety standard spin bikes.
That bike looks awesome. It seems like it would feel TOO fun to be considered a work out!
LOVE LOVE LOVE these bikes.
Sounds really cool!
awesome !
WANT.
Wow, that might be just the thing I need...part of why I HATE stationary bikes is that they just feel too static. I would love to be able to tilt like that. Awesome!
They have the RealRyders at my Gym in DC and I use them 3 times per week. I have lost weight, but more important to me I can see more definition in my abs. Not a 6 pack, but I do see the outline of at least one small can.

That looks really cool!!! http://littlemissjay.wordpress.com/
I'd be the laughing stock of the gym on one of these... I'd probably reflexively yell "Whoa" or "Oh Sh_ _" every time it tilted.
I've never taken a spin class, but that sucker looks awesome! I would love to try it!
Neat!
What a fantastic idea!
Sweet!
had a ride on the RealRyder at ZoneHampton. Awesome feel to the bike, the closest to road riding I have experienced. Engages abs, obliques, triceps and all lateral muscles as opposed to stationary spin bikes. Thinking this is the more superior way to stay fit off season from racing
What a brilliant spin bike, I wish I can replace it with my own that bought from lifespanfitness.com.au. It is good but not good as this one.
