Even the biggest fitness fanatic has been known to get bored with her workouts, and it's good to keep our bodies guessing and our minds motivated by changing up the routine. Underrated actress Sarah Chalke from Scrubs and How I Met Your Mother knows that adding variety to her workouts is the best way to keep her on track, something she says is more important since turning 30.
The charming 32-year-old actress told People that she noticed a difference once she exited her 20s, saying, "I had to really keep up with working out. You can't get lax about it anymore." Like many of us, Sarah admits, "If I do one thing I would get way too bored." She likes to break away from her routine by incorporating things like hiking with her dog, doing yoga, and participating in boot-camp workouts.
How do you mix up your workouts to prevent boredom?

Tripp
I wish I could still mix up my workouts...I used to have my school's gym to go to, with free fitness classes that I could go to if I wanted a change, but I don't have the money for a gym now so my workouts have been pretty boring.
1Kind of hard to mix them up when it is freezing cold outside, but I do like to go swimming or do some yoga instead of hitting the gym. Now a good dance by the beach in warm weather would be nice and also a hike.
2I like to do martial arts drills between sprints. for instance, sprint 200meters, then do 20 side kicks on each leg, sprint 200meters and then squat down and punch for a minute. I also like to do Pilates, Yoga, Weight Circuits, Bag Work, Run and Hit the trails on my bike.
3that's just common sense to me yet so many of us don't think that it's something that we need to do. for myself - i tend to stick to a tried and true thing and then i wonder why i'm not seeing results and that's because all i do are the same things and i don't work out different parts of my body. breaking up the routine is a SMART thing
4Some days I just run because you've just gotta do it sometimes, but I also do pilates, exercise bike, tae bo, and dance. On the days when I concentrate on toning my arms and legs, there a million different little exercises to mix it up.
5i do yoga, pilates, run, spin and then the eliptical trainer with the occaisional hike. now that winter is here i'll throw in skiing and snowboarding.
6Swimming, spin, biking outdoors, running, water aerobics, hiking, pole dancing, pussycat dancing, belly dancing, pilates, hula, strenth training and Wii. Yep, I love mixing up more workouts, though I have been lazy and sick and haven't gotten back to the pool. Bah.
7I think Sarah is really pretty.
As for me, I've always mixed up my workouts. During the week, I jog, dance, and weight train. It's fun.
8I'm a big fan of sarah's. she always in such good shape!
I mix up my workout by doing different strength training circuits every other day, mixing up my cardio routines between the arc trainer, elliptical and treadmill and I also do pilates, gym classes or dvds (30 day shred!) when I get a chance. I get bored so easily!
9I run 3 times a week--2 of them are sprint intervals and one is a long, slow run.
The other days I do fitness DVDs.
Every so often I take a spin class and yoga.
10I'm a sucker for a routine, so I really only mix up my workouts when I hit a plateau. Instead of long runs I speed walk with my dog outside for about 30 minutes, walk/jog on the treadmill for 30 minutes and then add weights and Pilates throughout the week. I guess I do mix it up a bit now that I think about it.
