Martha Stewart Calls Kenan Thompson Overweight on the Martha Stewart Show

I've seen my share of awkward moments on The Martha Stewart Show — she's spun around a stripper pole, not so subtly insulted Rachael Ray, and threw down rhymes with Snoop Dogg about "green" brownies. Awkward moments and all, I can't ever turn away from Martha. Maybe it's because regardless of how weird it seems to everyone else, it never is to her.

She took it to an entirely different level on yesterday's show though. At a roundtable discussion with comedian Kenan Thompson, chef Marcus Samuelsson, and nutrition and weight management expert Dr. David Katz, Martha tells Kenan he should ask Dr. Katz a question because, "You're a little overweight." I cringed and looked away, finding myself in even more disbelief because it didn't even occur to her that she had done anything wrong. Oh, Martha.

Wow, wackdoodle. First off, if you don't like teh site, don't read it. obviously you're not THAT concerned with the "woman in pink" as you keep reading and reading. Second, FitSugar promotes a healthy lifestyle and is absolutely NOT cruel or attacking.In fact, your little comment just offended me more than anything I've seen on Fit. If you don't like it, don't read it!

Wack, I think you are being entirely too hard on FitSugar. I have actually found FitSugar to be incredibly tolerant of all sizes and shapes, and there have been many posts about how people who weigh more aren't necessarily less healthy. Honestly, I feel like you have a very large chip on your shoulder and therefore are selectively remembering Fit's posts and twisting them to fit your mindset.

Wow wackdoodle. That's a lot to say and even though I respect your comments I think you are totally off base. There are stories about obesity on Fitsugar but they never come off sounding judgemental or mean. That remark from Martha Stewart was mean. Any stories I've read about people being overweight her weren't mean or attacking. Maybe they reported statistics or something and being overweight is a real problem right now. I think Fitsugar encourages a healthy lifestyle and has defnitly motivated me to be better. It's a shame you feel differently. And honestly being overweight has been linked to many health issues, there is nothing wrong with calling that out.

I think the reason why you cringed Fit is that you saw yourself in Martha's actions. I don't know how many times I've read posts on here attacking fat the faceless fat person, posts urging readers to speak out to fat folks. Questioning why health care professionals don't call a fat person out on their weight problem, as if the fat person is too stupid to realize that they are fat. Fitsugar posts about how wrong it is to be fat, what a drain it is to the economy, to the environment, to the pocketbooks of the "skinny" people and how people should step up and say something. Quoting studies saying fat people die sooner or faster than "skinny" people. Life spans are variable from person to person regardless of weight, gender, or hair color. As far as I know no one is guaranteed a long life span, no one regardless of weight has an expiration date printed on them. As is often said statistics can be and often are manipulated to suit someone's specific interests and diminish the oppositions statistics. How often can the site post that same image of the faceless fat woman in pink at the gym working out? Last year a lot. Wonder if the site will switch to a new faceless fat person's photo this year? I think you cringed at Martha's comment because you do the same thing she did but the difference Martha has done it one time but you do it many times a month. And now you get see to that what you say no matter what your intentions can be cringe-worthy and rude whether its face-to-face or in writing. I just keep thinking about the the faceless overweight women in pink at the gym. It's a slam. It's the reason many obese, overweight women hide themselves away. The fear that people will mock them and now fear that their backside or body with a blurred out face or with the head removed will be used as the model for what you should not be - a human with a visible problem who's open for public ridicule. This isn't a personal attack on Fitsugar more of an observation and the perspective of someone who used to look to Fitsugar for good sound advice. Now I'm gonna go out and run barefoot on the streets of San Francisco until I burn off the 487 calories I consumed today lest I become the faceless fat woman picture next year.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and just say, I can't stand Martha Stewart. She is not nice. She is cold to most of her guests, because she just wants to get her little project done on the show and doesn't really interact with them. When she does interact, she's mean, like this. For someone who is supposed to be so "classy" she sure could use a course in etiquette. BTW, Keenan used to be a lot heavier in his earlier years, like when he was on Nickelodean. So it seems to me like he is aware of his weight problem and is working on it. But she is obviously unaware of her attitude problem and therefore has done nothing to fix it.

I saw that show and I couldn't believe she said that either! I mean, yeah, Keenan isn't exactly skinny, but it's pretty rude to call him out on it. And like rach1007 said, it's not like Martha can really talk. I'm pretty sure she'd qualify as overweight or at least close to it by many standards. I think she's getting a bit senile in her older years, though...without those cue cards and Ptouch labels on everything, she'd be lost.

I saw this yesterday and I too couldn't believe her. Pretty much every episode has at least one moment where I sit there wondering what on earth she is thinking. As far as this comment, I don't really think Martha is the model of excellence here either--she is by no means obese, but she certainly isn't a skinny minnie either.
