I learned that if you sing "happy birthday" twice while washing your hands, you get everything! AND! Don't forget to wash around your nailbeds. They are the nastiest (and most forgotten) parts of your hands.

plain soap and water is best because germs can become immune to antibacterial soap over time and not all germs are bad.as far as the hand sanitizer i cant stand the smell

Yep, that antibacterial crap is actually more harmful that it is good. Have you checked out the alcohol content in that junk? Scary.

Any type of soap, combined with warm water and friction will do the trick.

Hand sanitizers should really only be used when soap and water isn't available. They also kill off normal, healthy bacteria that doesn't typically make you sick. Using antibacterial soaps may lead to the development of bacteria that are resistant to the products' antimicrobial agents — making it even harder to kill these germs in the future.

Won't any type of soap and warm water do the trick, as long as you lather and wash for about 20 seconds?? That's what I was taught when I worked in a daycare...
