How to Weight-Train Without Dumbbells

How to Shake Up Your Weight-Training Routine

If it's time to work out and you're reaching for the same five-pound dumbbells once again, then it may be time for a switch. Here are two ways to shake up your weight-training routine.

Drop the dumbbells: The weight room may be one of the more intimidating places at your gym, but if your weight-lifting routine is a little stale, then try something new when it comes to your equipment. Try a weighted bar and incorporate deadlifts into your workout (this move is effective but can be tough, so learn how to do a deadlift correctly here), or start a new kettlebell habit with these kettlebell workouts that will help you tone and lose weight. The cable pulley machine is also a great way to tone almost every part of your body.

Increase your weights: Not seeing results can mean it's time to amp up your weight routine. Doing fewer reps with larger weights can help you train past your plateau and see results fast. Make sure you go for a heavier weight that results in muscle fatigue after about eight to 12 reps. If you need more convincing, then read more about choosing the right dumbbell size here.
