It is both Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Vegetarian Awareness Month, so the red meat question was due to come. Studies have found that eating red meat daily increases your risk of breast cancer by 56 percent. These days, I think you would be hard-pressed to find a woman eating red meat daily, but that statistic sure does get you thinking.

I might not be vegetarian, but lately I eat lower on the food chain for both health and environmental reasons. I eat red meat about twice a month and buy the grass-fed and finished meat from a cattle ranch less than 50 miles away (I know I am lucky to live in Northern California). How about you?

I wish there was a choice of once a month. I don't like it, but it's inevitable when you're married to a carnivorous man.
1exactly, spacekat. I'm a major red meat fan, but (A) my sister/roommate is a vegetarian so I don't like bringing too much meat in the house for her sake (B) I have heart disease in my family so try and limit it
... but even last night, I made beef tacos at the boyfriend's apt. sometimes my body just asks for it.
2Probably once a month. I'm not big on the taste of beef but my bf loves a good steak. So probably around once a month we go to a steakhouse.
3It depends. But I'd say on average twice a week.
4I love red meat. My husband is actually the one who helps make sure our consumption at home is limited.
5Very, very rarely (I follow mostly a vegetarian diet) but every once in a while I'll have it!
6Generally something with ground beef once a week and steak once a week or every other week. I know I should eat less but my family loves it.
7Very rarely, about once every three months. I eat primarily vegetarian but will eat meat when I am craving it. I have some neighbors down the road that sell grass-fed beef from their ranch a few miles away and they make it easy since all I have to do is drop them a line before I head over to pick it up.
8I also agree with spacekat and mamasita. I rarely eat it, not even once a month, but I'm not a vegetarian or vegan.
9It's all my husband wants to eat. I've gotten him to start eating more chicken but he would have steak every day if he could. Usually I make steak or beef for him like 3 days a week but I make something with protein for me so that I don't have to eat it. I'll have like 2 or 3 bites of the steak and decide that I really don't want to eat it. I'd love to get rid of it completely from my household but I think my hubby would divorce me over that!
10like once a year so far...I didn't eat any for 5 years, I just took 3 days to eat one flank stake. It was good, but I'm not going to make a habit out of it...My diet for the past 3 months has turned back to vegetarian without me really realizing it, that seems to be my default, lol.
11What is that a picture of??
12I just became a vegetarian, but befoer I didn't eat alot of red meat. Mainly chicken and fish.
13LOL Sy it looks like chocolate doesn't it??
14mmm maybe about 3 times a month though my honey loves red meat. I also need to clear our freezer of the goods too... ugh. but i'm going red meatless this month. I primarily eat veggies fruit poultry/fish, but sometimes I just get the hunger for red. . .
15im really surprised by the number of vegetarians.. yay.
16I would say about 3-5x a time month, it really depends if I find good sales at the store or if we make a taco bell run more then once ha-ha.
17I'm not a vegetarian, but I don't eat red meat. I just don't really care for it, so I eat fish and chicken when I want meat.
18Never, because I'm severely allergic.
19It varies so much depending on what I'm inspired to cook that week. I picked 3-5 times/week since sometimes it is that much, but some weeks I don't eat red meat at all.
20I don't eat red meat at all, and havent for 6 years. I wish there was an option for never, without the vegan/vegetarian thing added, because I'm not either. I was vegan for about 5 years but now eat eggs, and white meat once or twice a month. I still have a mostly vegan diet though. I'd prefer to eat mostly only things that will healthfully benefit my body in some way.
21Vegetarian since May!
22I try to eat red meat around twice a week. I love red meat and it's packed with nutrients. I refuse to believe that eating red meat as part of a balanced diet is bad for your (or will give you cancer, I think thats a load of tosh)
As long as it's not dripping with fat and has a salad on the side (no carbs when I eat meat) it's fair game to me.
Also I think that photos steak with Dianne sauce. Delicious but so very very very fatty..
23I'm really surprised how many people are veg! I used to eat red meat about once a month but went vegan back in Feb.
24No red meat for this girl. Been vegetarian for about a year and a half. Never really liked steak before that, but did enjoy myself a cheeseburger. Don't think I could ever go back now that I know all I do about meat.
25I don't like red meat, I never really have. If I'm craving a burger, which happens pretty often, I get myself a turkey or veggie burger.
26I'm not a vegetarian but picked the choice because I don't eat red meat.
I like red meat - I'd say on average I eat it once a week. I do tend to eat a lot more chicken though.
27Veggie here! The thought of red meat is disgusting. It is a piece of a butchered animal that is rotting on your plate. If you really crave meat that bad, trust me there are plenty of really tasty alternatives out there. When we have little cookouts I grill the Boca burgers and the kids and meat-lovers think they are delicious!
28Vegan, so no meat for me
29I make a chilli kind of meal which we keep in the fridge and re-heat for some of our meals during the week. We'll generally eat it about 3 times a week? Since we eat SO MANY meals during the week it would be difficult to completely avoid it!
However, the portion of red meat in there is small and we eat it with rice.
30I only touch 100% grass-fed & grass-finished beef or other red meats!!! MM MM GOOD!
