A new study from the journal Lancet shows that the obesity epidemic shows no signs of slowing down. Currently, the obesity rate in the United States stands at 32 percent for men and 35 percent for women, or about a third of the population. The rate continues to grow; take the quiz to guess how much of the population will be obese by 2030.

BMI was meant to be used for populations, not individuals. I don't think any country can get healthy when so much of what we "know" is based on shoddy science and estimates.

There are cases where BMI does not correctly display whether or not a person is healthy, particularly when the individual has a lot of muscle mass - I believe the body pinch fat test might be a better match to let people know whether or not they may be overweight. That being said - our country is definitely not healthy as a whole and we need to work towards becoming more active :)

So...I guess when they did the study, they took into account that the BMI cutoffs were lowered in 1998 for no real reason, effectively pushing 25 million Americans into the overweight or obese range overnight? Yeah, I doubt it. Can we please stop with the fearmongering and nonsense about the "obesity epidemic"?
