Have You Had the Flu This Year?

After learning that this year's flu vaccine is not matched for two of the three strains of the virus making the rounds this year, I have become a little paranoid. So far my family has stayed flu free, but anytime the flu is mentioned I superstitiously knock on wood. It is practically an unconscious move.

im 26 never had a flu shot and never have i had the flu. i have not even had a cold. in my life the only sick i have ever been is a minor cough which stops when i put the cigarettes down for a day or two. im actually getting curious. my wife , son and mother in law were all sick in the house and i was all around them acting no differently than i always do and never missed a step. kisses snotty lil boy nose and what ever else goes on.. i just dont get it.. is my immune system that well defensed or is there somtehing else?

I haven't had the flu since 2000 and I never get the flu shot. I think I have a really good immune system or something because I NEVER get sick anymore.

Nope! Although pretty much everyone in my office seems to have had it. I haven't had it in maybe 8 years. I just really don't get sick often - last time I was really sick was more than a year ago - but I still get super nervous when everyone around me is.

i only get sick (with the flu) once every year or 2. last year i was around my cousin's son when he was sick so i got sick too. :( i don't usually hang around children, though. i hate when people go to school sick. so unfair for the rest of us.

I haven't had the flu in about 25 years... not since I was a little kid. I haven't known very many people who have had it, either. Maybe it has something to do with living in Florida.

No. I've only had the REAL flu, not just a bad cold or stomach bug, once in my life. About 6 years ago. I've never been so sick and I hope I NEVER get it again.

I got my flu shot back in October and caught a nasty flu early in December!! It was so bad it turned into pneumonia...which was the WORST ever!! Once i got some super duper anti-biotics in my (only 5 days worth!!) i felt better. Although my lungs took a super long time to get better fully. Just glad its over now...and im getting a pneumonia shot next year!!!

i just had it last week. it really crept up on me and hit me hard. i lost 5 lbs. by the end of the week, which was a nice perk! but i wouldn't wish the flu on anyone.

Not yet, but my boyfriend is staying home sick today. He woke up and said "OH MY GOD IT"S FREEZING" and I was like uhm no not really. I hope he doesn't get me sick while I'm trying to take care of him!

I'm usually pretty healthy but I have two little kids so I'm constantly exposed to bugs from their school, friends, activities etc. since I'm in kidworld so much now. I started getting an annual flu shot year three years ago when pregnant with my now-two year old. This year was the first year that I got the flu in a LONG time. I had the shot early, like I think September or maybe early October, and got a bad flu the Tuesday before Thanskiving, with 40 guests coming to our house in two days! I took to bed all day Tues and had no choice but to drag my butt out of bed on Wed to get ready and host everyone on Thurs. DH is sick with a horrible flu now (he doesn't get flu shots so the fact that this year's isn't as effective doesn't factor for him.) He has been sick so far for 8 days and *still* has a fever. I am hoping he'll go to the doc this week because he's just not getting better.

Im not sure if it were the flu but last week I caught something that smacked me down right on my @ss. I had high fevers! Body ache and a lil sniffles. Doesnt sound like the flu but it was insane. I heard its just something going around in NYC, my friend had and I know a couple of other people that got sick too. It was, by far, the worse bug Ive ever had!

People who know me joke that I have Super-DNA because I never get sick. I haven't been sick except for food poisoning and a freak occurrence that prompted surgery, in eight years. I had the flu. Before that, it was another five or so years since I had been sick.
