Have You Ever Thrown Out Your Back?

My poor pooch was skunked in the face Friday night, so my hubby and I spent most of the day Saturday leaning over the tub, bathing him over and over trying to get the stink out of his fur. The strong odor has dissipated, but now it's the mister I feel sorry for. He woke up Sunday morning with a body out of commission. This isn't the first time he's thrown out his back, but hopefully it'll be the last. Tell me . . .

I've never known exactly what it means to "throw your back out." Does it mean that you pulled a muscle? Or that you did something to your spine? Or is it just a vague term for bad back pain?

I've never thrown out my back, but I did pull a muscle in my back once after wrestling with a manual push-type lawn mower. It hurt like a bear for a couple of days, but I made a pretty good recovery.

Yes, when I was a teenager. My back has never been the same since. The upside is that I learned a lot of exercises and practice good posture to guard my (weakened) back. All that has made me more fit by having to engage my other muscles to give my back a break, so I guess that part is good.

I have had back pain, but luckily not actually "thrown" it out.

I have chronic back pain but never in the sense of "throwing it out" though today I have a terrible kink in my neck from sleeping weird!

I'm only 26 but I've already thrown out my back before. I was lifting a TV out of it's entertainment unit, and even though I grew up in sports and know to lift with my legs, I lifted it incorrectly, my back twitched, and then I experienced the worst pain EVER. I collapsed on my couch and laid their curled in a ball for like an hour.
Sort of... I took out my piriformis muscle (overuse) and I had referred pain in my lower back with each step. It was no fun at all!
I've never "thrown out" my back, but I've hurt it pretty bad. I'll never forget when this little boy on a bike purposely ran his bike into mine and knocked me over and I hit my back on the curb of a sidewalk. The father was around the corner, not being the greatest supervisor and then proceeded to tell me his son does stuff like this on purpose alot...... I had to be put on muscle relaxers for a few weeks to help with the strain. *grumble*
