Breakfast bars are a great idea, in theory. However, some mainstream breakfast bars are high in sugar, low in protein and very low in taste. So before you buy a box of new breakfast bars, be sure to check out these requirements for picking a good bar:
- It should not have more than 15 grams of sugar.
- It should have 5 grams or more of fiber.
- It should have at least 5 grams of protein.
- It should contain 25% of the DV for calcium.
A good pick: Luna's Whole Grain Sunrise Bars have 8 g of protein and 5 g of fiber, plus 35% of the daily value for calcium. (180 cal, 4.5 g fat, 2 g sat fat). You can buy a box of 15 for $19.99 online at LunaBar.com.

Ouch, I just checked my bars and they have only 1.5 gr of protein, 1.1 fiber, but also only 0.3 sugar (but 16 carbs). But I wanted to switch anyways as they don't taste that spectacular either....
1I knew that photo was the back of a Luna bar!!! I love their peppermint chocolate bar...! I'll have to try the breakfast one.
2I'm printing this off as we speak.
3I need somehting to eat in the morning, because usually I'm nto hungry at all and just drink coffee or green tea until lunch.
But I know that bad, so i need something liek this just so I have something for my body to run on!
Thanks!
These are great tips.
4Luna Bars are great! I usually have one when I really want chocolate but should be eating better! They usually take care of it.
You can get them $10 for 10 at Target sometimes-- that's when I stock up.
