Problem: Sweaty, naked bodies and hot, steamy showers make the locker room a breeding ground for germs. In the New York University study, germs found on the shower floor were "innumerable."
Solution: First off, don't skip taking a shower. The best thing you can do to protect yourself from germs you may have come in contact with is to get clean and put on some fresh, dry clothing. Always wear flip flops in the shower and wrap yourself in a towel before sitting down on a locker room or sauna bench. Make sure to dry off completely before getting dressed again — moist areas are breeding grounds for bacteria. To make things more safe for yourself, opt to use your own bath and beauty products over the public ones that the gym provides.
