When the temperature drops, I crave soup. Since I don't always have time to whip up a pot of soup, I tend to keep cans of Amy's Soups on hand. I love that they're made solely of veggies, herbs, and spices. I've gotten a little sick of the flavors though, so I was psyched when I saw these new Campbell's V8 Soups. Each one-cup serving contains a full half-cup serving of vegetables, and this soup is made with no artificial flavors or preservatives. Sounds healthy, but what about the taste? | A serving size is only one cup, and there are two servings per container. I thought most people would end up eating the entire container, so I included the nutritional info for both one- and two-cup servings. Even if you do end up eating both cups, it's only 280 calories, which isn't high at all. I loved the flavor; very mild, but sweet and herby. The texture was wonderfully thick and creamy, and you could see small chucks of potato and carrots. It felt very hearty for a prepackaged soup. The only problem is the sodium content. This soup tasted pleasantly salty because the entire box of soup contains 1,500 mg of sodium. That's pretty high considering your daily amount shouldn't exceed 2,300 mg a day. Well, I guess that's to be expected with prepackaged soups. Too bad because I was excited to try the other flavors: Sweet Red Pepper, Garden Broccoli, Tomato Herb, and Southwestern Corn. I guess I'll have to stick to the one-cup serving size recommended, and eat it with a big salad and some bread to make it a complete meal. |

I've been a canned soup fiend since I was a child! Thanks for the review, I'll have to give this a try!
1I've tried this, and I loved it! I made it with a grilled cheese on whole wheat bread w/ 2% cheese. I can't wait to try the other kinds!
2I've been on a homemade soup kick for a few weeks now. So many options for soup when you make it yourself....low sodium stock, beans, protein sources, veggies, pasta/rice/other grains, different spices....so affordable and makes a ton! Otherwise I really prefer Amy's soups above other brands.
3I don't understand this big deal about sodium. I mean, I understand why it's so bad for you to exceed it, but where are are people getting all the excess sodium from? I track what I eat, and I am never anywhere NEAR 2,300mg/day. Most days, I don't even reach 1000mg/day. I could easily eat the entire container for lunch (not that I would since I'm not a soup fan, just making a point) and still be fine for the day. It just kind of baffles me where all this sodium comes from in the diets of others. What has so much sodium that people are eating?
4LOL! I have this in my cupboard at home, waiting for when I get my wisdom teeth out this week
5I'm not a huge pureed soup fan...I much prefer a broth-based soup. I'm really liking the new Select Harvest soups from Campbell's. They only have 50 calories per cup and they aren't terribly high in sodium.
6Trader Joe's has a bunch of these types of soups - and low sodium versions. I'll have to compare brands, but TJ's prices almost always win.
7i agree with alikat
8I mostly eat the Campbell's brand but I've never heard of this one. I may try it soon.
9broccoli, that's the best kind..I can't believe that ALL of these soups are so lowfat
10I went to the store today and bought this
anddd loved it!
I think ill go back and buy more!
11Strange that I'm on a lunch break eating the Sweet Red Pepper soup when I came across this posting. It is delicious....Butternut Squash is high on my list.
