When you spend a lot of time at the gym, you get to know your way around. You learn how to use all the equipment, and you take classes or have sessions with a personal trainer to learn all the killer strength training moves. I'm wondering, after spending so much time becoming fit, have you ever thought about becoming a personal trainer or fitness instructor to inspire others to be strong and healthy?

no but i've thought about GETTINg one. it's hard. i don't like to weight train, but i'm sure that i would see a big difference if i had one - and since my wedding is coming up soon, it might make sense...right?
1i've thought about it, since i am currently a student and go to the gym anyways, it would be very easy. plus, i keep dating the trainers at my gym
2Yeah, I have. I think it would be great to help people transform themselves into a better healthier person.
3Only if the people I trained wouldn't mind learning new techniques for changing the channel and eating s'mores so they don't drip, at the same time.
4Yep. I worked at a gym for several years, but always in another capacity (head guard and then marketing). Plus, its part of my field, health and recreation. I am going to get my PT cert one of these days. . .
5I was certified as part of my training to be a rehab assistant about 8 years ago. I loved it but got a job in a different field and let my certification slide.
2 kids and 8 years later I'm significantly overweight and working to get rid of it. Once my kids are a little older and I've gotten back to the place I want to be health/fitness wise I'm seriously considering getting recertified and specializing in work with people who are significantly overweight or have other barriers that would make the typical approach to fitness training difficult.
6I've thought about it for sure - I'm definitely one of those "I know more than I look like I do people" and I'm a pretty good teacher/instructor in general.
Only thing I hate about PT's - they seem to want to just gab gab gab a lot. I look at the PT's at my gym and think man if I paid for those sessions I wouldn't want it to turn into a social hour. I'm there to work not play.
So maybe I don't have the right personality - or I do.
7I've thought about it a couple times. I need to figure out what I want to do with my life. I love exercise and fitness and would love to help people become the best them they can be.
8I have thought about it, but now I have decided to become a yoga instructor. I am an RN, so I have 4 days off a week, which would be perfect to teach.
9I'm by no means the most fit or knowledgeable person when it comes to fitness, but I see so many people at the gym doing things that are simply hindering their success (holding on to the treadmill while running, incorrect form for push-ups or planks, etc) that I just want to run over and say "let me help you!"
10I've been teaching for 2 years and LOVE it. I have memberships to three gym chains, meet the most amazing people and get to share my love of fitness with them.
If you love it that much, it's worth a shot to get certified. I have my group ex through AFAA and have numerous trainings to include Turbokick, Yogafit, Zumba, etc. Worth every single penny.
11I have thought about it and am actually in a yoga teacher training program right now. I'm on week 7 of a 17-week program. The yoga is a great compliment to my science-based day job.
12i'm a nutrition/dietetics major, so i have definitely thought about this...the certificates/degrees would pair pretty well, huh?
13Not really, but being a nutritionist would be more up my alley..
14When I was in the best shape of my life, I thought about being a trainer or nutritionist.
15I decided to do this about 6 months ago, and since I've been working really hard to get in the most tip-top shape ever! A wise trainer once told me, "You are your own billboard in this buisiness."
16I'll probably start getting certified this summer.
I am studying right now to get certified. I have learned a lot of health and fitness lessons the hard way and I sincerley want to help people to live healthier lives, especially women who I feel have a tendency to more easily follow misinformation about exercise.
I have been interested in becoming a PT for awhile but recently I have had several people approach me at the gym and ask about my routine and want to know what I do which has really boosted my the confidence to persue this. I would love to make a career out of it because right now I really dislike coming to work but I always look forward to going to the gym and waste more time than I should reading and researching about fitness while I am at work (damn you distracting Fit Sugar!)
17Yes, I have. Who knows I may someday.
18Used to think about it...
19I've thought about it a lot. I used to sell fitness equipment and my managers were both PTs. I asked them about how hard it is to get certified and they said it's not that hard, especially if you already know a lot about getting in shape on your own. One of my managers let me borrow his certification materials and let me read through them...it was very straight-forward. Plus, I actually modify a lot of the exercises I see in magazines and on DVDs and whatnot and make them better and more effective for myself. Who knows, maybe I will become a PT...getting paid to work out sounds like a plus to me.
20I've thought about it, but I don't think trainers get paid very much in my area.
21I've thought about getting certified to teach Spinning, but I'm not sure if the cost of certification ($350, I think?) would be worth it, since I have a day job I need to keep. I guess you get a free gym membership, and I think my gym pays $15/class. So who knows!
22i'd have like 0 clients
i'm not fit, nobody would listen to me
))))
23Yes, even purchased the study material from ACE, but decided to pursue my bachelor's first. I'm not totally convinced it would be an adequate income unless you lived in a large city & had the paying clients to draw from & know your stuff. It would be beneficial if someone were already into another aspect of the healthy lifestyle, such as nutrition.
