When I first heard about doga classes (yoga with your dog), I thought it was too bizarre to catch on, but it seems that classes are cropping up all over the place. Some people feel that it's a slap in the face to this ancient tradition, while others believe doga makes perfect sense since it coincides with yogic principles that encourage living in harmony with all living beings. Classes aren't just about doing Downward Facing Dog while your dog sleeps on your mat. You actually assist your dog to help him or her do yoga poses and gentle stretches. Doga also incorporates doggie massage and meditation.

I'm all for anything that encourages humans and animals to exercise and be healthy, but a line may have been crossed here. Tell me, is doga laughable or something you'd lap up?
Bunny Hug
Hell no I wouldn't.
1Of course I would try it, but I wouldn't want a 200 lb St. Bernard standing on my stomach.
2It'd be fun to try! Why not?
3Way too ridiculous for me, but i have a friend who would be totally into it. She also carries her dogs around in little purses and puts clothes on them.
4I have to laugh, because I feel like I am doing Doga daily when I do my home practice.
My dogs are like velcro and are always touching me in some way. If I'm bent into Downward Dog, they're crawling to lay underneath me and try to lick my face. Upward Dog, they're usually hopping over my back and licking my face. Child's pose is a game to them and usually I have one on either side trying to squeeze their noses under my armpits to get at my face. Sometimes my Benny (pictured) will lay on his back when I'm laying on my back for a pose, and he'll cock his head over to look at me while his feet are spread eagle. Oh and when I'm doing a forward bend, Benny likes to "peekaboo" me by walking through my legs from behind and standing so that he has free access to lick my face for as long as I can tolerate it.
It's so much fun, but they do sometimes disrupt my practice and in a class setting, I think they'd be more interested in the other dogs than me.
5Would I??? I HAVE! And its awesome and so much fun. Granted I only have a little 26lb Shetland Sheepdog, but she is my favorite thing/girly in the *entire* world and I include her in whatever I can. That includes my 'Doga'. LOL. She loved it! She told me
LMAO
6No way, I always had to lock my puppy out of the room while doing yoga. He absolutely LOVES my yoga mat and would always get in my way!
7How do you get them to do what you want?
8I want to see that bulldog doing yoga!
9No.
10Where's the "I do not do yoga, but do not begrudge my dog to do it" option?
11haha - our poochie is 100bs and if I'm on the floor he wants my lap - no way!!!
12No, it's ridiculous.
13Heh, my dog couldn't stay still long enough!
14I don't really do yoga on my own anyway, but adding a 70 lb geriatric lab/Rottweiler to the mix certainly wouldn't be my idea of a good time. Plus, she sometimes gets the worst doggie gas...having my dog fart in my face would be pretty disgusting.
15Every time I do yoga at home my dog thinks its a great idea to sit or lay down next to me. She gets really excited it about it. She's a larger dog (samoyed) and sometimes gets in the way but I love having her there. I would definitely try it.
16I guess it would be fun, but I feel like the spiritual side of yoga is being put aside more and more this days. I'm sure you can't really concentrate with a dog on your stomach!...
17these* days...
18My dog is good at meditating, but yoga would probably wear him out.
19i have two black labs and they enjoy joining in on any exercises. yoga, pilates, stretching, even running on the treadmill they are stuck to me like glue.
20I would definitely try. Of course, I am obsessed with dog and always have her around me.
21Every time i try to do cardio at home, one of my dogs thinks that i am initiating play time and he will jump on me (130 lbs) ... its cute but i don't get a good workout.... maybe he would calm down with yoga though hmm...
22prooobably not. how about a cat? mm still no.
23I don't know about making them do the exercises..
24But actually a lot of poses mirror what I see my pets doing all the time. You know, like the cat stretch, downward dog and upward dog.
How would you get a workout when your concentrating on what your dog is doing? Ive tried baby yoga and it wasn't any fun. This doesn't sound like fun either.
