Pizza is one of my weaknesses, and I definitely indulge in it once in a while. I have to say that some slices are especially greasy. I can't stand it when I take a bite and drips of oil fall onto my plate. To solve this issue I blot my pizza; I feel this makes it a bit healthier. What about you?

Lipsy
My husband blots. I'm okay with dying before him.
1If its really greasy, I don't do it for health... I more do it so the grease doesn't drip all over me! (I swear I need a bib)
2Same here. It never fails that once I bite into a slice I have drips of grease on my pants. I always blot.
3I do it when it's really greasy! I'm usually a healthy eater, so when i treat myself to pizza, i try to enjoy it without feeling guilty...i do it more because i hate the greasing dripping down my plate...
4I rarely eat pizza because I know how unhealthy it can be but if and when I try to order from somewhere that I know isn't dripping in oils and such.
But yes I have had to blot my pizza before.
5I read somewhere that you shave a good amount of fat off that slice by blotting. Someone have any numbers or stats for me?
6Another thing I do is when I get a boxed pizza delivered, I drop it three or four times. Let it fall straight down.
7I always blot, it's too greasy and yucky if I don't. And it makes me feel better! Even if I'm saving like barely any calories it's still Something!!
8Absolutely!!!!!
@killthesmiley: wouldn't that make all the cheese stick to the top of the box?
is pizza really that unhealthy? I don't consider it a "junk" or "treat" food at all. But I guess I just eat good pizzas
9I eat veggie pizza. I don't eat the peperoni stuff that is usually the drippy culprit.
10See this is why the NY'ers got it down. When you fold your pizza the grease drips back at the end of the crust onto your plate, so no need to worry about getting it on you.
Pepperoni isn't always the culprit. Most of the time it depends on the quality of cheese they use.
11If it's really gross then hellz yea! Sometimes some pizza is SO yuck and greasy!
12Yes and also the excessive salt in chips.
13I definitely do this, all the time. Also, kind of like gabiushka, I'll pick salt off of pretzels sometimes.
14We make our own dough and sauce from scratch. We also choose our toppings, veggies & lean meats, carefully. Thus there is no need to blot.
15Rarely. The pizza place across the street just makes really good (non-greasy) pizzas.
16it became a habit. Now I do it all the time, especially if it's a plain slice.
17I have become my mother and I actually take my cheese off of my pizza.
I get teased a ton, but
I need to look good in a bathing suit, so I do what makes me happy.
18I dont eat pizza it is too fattening
19If it has a lot of grease i will.
I am surprised at the number of people that say they don't eat pizza! Pizza is my favorite and i couldn't live without it. We eat it once a week! Mmmmm pizza, i think i will have it for dinner tonight.
20I am one of the few people in the world who does not like pizza. (I think it's the melted cheese.) I won't stop a group of people from ordering it, but I don't go out of my way to eat it.
21If I do, it's blotted. And I looove eating other people's crusts.
I can't actually say I love pizza, but sometimes I actually feel like having a slice and yes I blot. I don't do it because of grease dripping on me or because I think it decreases the calories. I just really don't like greasy food which is another reason why I wouldn't call pizza my most favorite food. In fact, too much cheese in pizza can give me a stomach ache.
22sorry killthesmiley, but I don't get the dropping the pizza thing. What is that supposed to do?
23you may as well blot...it saves undue grease from going into your body, and doesn't make it taste any better!
24i blot the crap outta my pizza. seeing the grease makes me wanna hurl.
25When it's really greasy I do it - mostly because it would end up on me - but most pizza I get isn't that greasy.
26ooh..
i make this awesome pizza..
i start out with some fresh dough
let it rise in the fridge.. it takes longer, but it will taste way better
i roll it thin, and i brush some smart balance(butter) and fresh minced garlic that i warm up together in a small pan then brush it all over the dough.
then i add a few spoons of alfredo and ranch.. i suppose as much or little as one would like.
then i lay over that fresh baby spinach. as much as you'd like.. remember it cooks down.
then i add cheese. i usually get a really good mozzarella that is fresh and milky, or there is also a mexican cheese that is just like mozzarella. it usually comes in balls or small round blocks. so i slice it roughly about quarter inch slices and i place them on top of the spinach. i don't cover every inch because as it melts it will spread out.
then.. dun dun dun.. i add chicken. i usually use breast(1 or 2) since it is easy. i cube it small, and cook it in a pan. i also add bacon to the chicken, but it doesn't need it. but it tastes better... then as it cooks, i season with a lil salt, and i like it spicy, so some red pepper powder. then as it is almost done cooking, i add some orange juice concentrate(1 or 2 tbsp) or orange juice(1cup). let it reduce untill the chicken appears to have absorbed the juice.
so i sprinkle on the chicken over the cheese.
then i add thinly sliced red onion
dust with parmagiano cheese
and bake in a very hot preheated oven
then i lower the heat to 375 and bake until the crust is crisp and brown
wait.. i'm not done yet..
i also have an extra few toppings for after it's done baking..
in a bowl, add fresh diced roma tomatoes, EVOO, balsamic to taste, and fresh chopped basil. mix and let it marinate in the fridge while the pizza bakes.
then add to the pizza before you serve with some fresh thinly sliced scallions (green onion)
mmm..
idk if it is healthy, but it is the best pizza i've had without mushrooms.
oh, i never blot pizza.. i should though..
i remember going to round table pizza as a kid and i would get my personal pepperoni pizza with lil pepperonis curled up from the hot oven looking like tiny bowls, and filled with grease.. ewww.. i ate it though, it was good!
27I blot, and sometimes seeing the grease makes me just not eat it anyway.
28I don't understand people who don't eat pizza because it's too fattening! I eat it occassionally and I'm a size 0. It's all about moderation, for real.
29I wish I hadn't read this... now I'm just plain hungry for pizza. It's not even a favorite food of mine :-/.
And yes - I do blot if it's greasy on top. Pools of grease have never whet my appetite.
30no never but I would if it was really disgusting
31I am such a fan of NY style pizza, which seems to be the greasiest. If it's glistening. I blot for sure.
32I take the cheese off my pizza.
33I blot most things that have that greasy sheen on them. Its just gross and i feel like any little bit i can remove will do me some good. i dont eat much greasy pizza anyway...
34i only blot when the grease is visible but i have heard that you can save over 100 calories by blotting!
35If it's too greasy I will...but usually I just avoid super greasy-looking pizza all together. I have a very sensitive stomach and greasy, heavy foods always make me sick.
So I never get extra cheese and my favorite kinds are the ones with veggies on them, like peppers, onions, eggplant, broccoli, etc.
36Article - Will blotting the pizza really help you lose weight?

ah i love pizza. I usually just fold it and let the oil drip out. mmmmm..pizzaa
38I actually like a less oily pizza, taste-wise.
39I actually HATE cheesy pizza, so I blot like crazy and take off most of the cheese and ask for double sauce. =)
40I don't blot the pizza but if the slice was dripping oil while I fold it in half then I'm just going to let gravity do it's thing on to the plate.
41i have pizza without cheese (i'm vegan and hate fake cheese) so there isn't any grease since i just use pizza sauce and veggies.
42I don't eat pizza, but when I do, I always take the cheese off entirely. I had a friend in high school that always blotted the cheese off her pizza with 2 or 3 napkins religiously because she claimed it made it healthier. It probably tasted better without giant pools of grease on it, that's for sure.
43I try to avoid pizza I may feel I would want to blot.
44My mom told me to do this from when I was very young. I'm surprised that other people know this trick too because whenever I do it in front of people, they're always interested about why I do it and what it does.
45I'm so with you Greentea. I'm also a size 0 and indulge in pizza maybe once every two weeks or so. I happen to prefer whole wheat thin crust with grilled chicken and veggies, but I'll partake in a greasier less healthy slice if that's what's being offered. As for blotting, I'm actually nauseous just reading this post about oil and grease, so I'm going to say I definitely blot if necessary!
46@Lo LO & Greentea1203: Where do you buy your clothes?!! This is a serious question, I am worried that I am no longer going to be able to go to the stores I like because either I am disappearing or their sizes are growing.
47I usually make my own so grease isn't an issue then. When I order pizza for work, every once in awhile I do blot it but most of the places aren't too greasy and I try to order a veggie pizza with all the other super-meaty pizzas. I have to order the veggie one with light cheese because place seem to think if it's veggie, it has to have twice the cheese as the meat ones. Yuck, all that cheese isn't tasty because it's too much to get that nice brown, crusty top to it.
48I think it's really gross to blot pizza. The napkin kinda sticks into the pizza and then how clean is the actual napkin...They could have been laying on the floor. EWWWW! Even at home, I am skeptical of my just-opened Bounty paper towels...
49@angelfromlsu: that is interesting. but thinking that way will surely turn me into a germaphobe.
