We are pumped to share one of our fave stories from Self here on FitSugar!

Decorating for Halloween and raking my first round of leaves today reminded me that not only is housework a real workout, but yard work is too! If you've been breaking a sweat in your backyard here's a quick calorie count...

Yard Work

Get down and dirty in the garden. Weeding, mulching, and planting mums can burn around 125 calories for a half hour and make your house look amazing.

Kick-up the burn: Squat down for those pesky weeds.

Pushing and pulling your rake is a tough shoulder workout while hauling those big tarps back to the woods can tone-up those legs and torch about 110 calories an hour.

Kick-up the burn: Instead of one big pile, make a few medium size piles all over the yard.

Skip the blower, instead sweep the porch, sidewalks, and driveways to burn around 106 calories a half hour.

Kick-up the burn: Turn up the iPod and pick up the pace to get that heart pumping.

Leave the ride-on mower in the shed and you'll burn anywhere between 150-200 calories an hour.
