It's hard to imagine topping the epic opening ceremony from the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, but if anyone can, it's sure to be director Danny Boyle of Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours fame.
While details are being closely guarded, the three-hour ceremony is said to be an Anglophile's dream: Boyle has transformed the Olympic stadium to resemble rural England and the show is aptly named, "Isles of Wonder." Expect to see the best of British culture strewn throughout — from the Beatles to Voldemort and a dash of James Bond. But with a final price tag of $42 million, it's hard to even begin to imagine what Boyle has in store.
The London opening ceremony begins on Friday, July 27 at 9 p.m., GMT. It will later air on NBC as part of its nightly prime-time coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m.
